According to Xinhua News Agency on October 1, many European countries have condemned Israel after it intercepted several humanitarian aid ships belonging to the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) in the Mediterranean Sea and brought the people on board to an Israeli port.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto condemned Israel's actions "in the strongest terms" because of the presence of Italian citizens on board. He authorized the immediate intervention of an Italian Navy unit, which is on its way to the area to carry out rescue operations.
Portuguese authorities confirmed that three citizens, including a member of parliament, were "arrested" on the boat. Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa pledged to provide "full consular assistance" through the country's embassy in Tel Aviv to ensure the rights of the citizens and their safe return.
France and Spain also expressed concern, calling on Israel to ensure the safety of their citizens, guarantee their right to consular protection and allow them to return home soon.
On the evening of October 1, the GSF fleet condemned the "aggression" of the Israeli Army, emphasizing that the Florida was "deliberately rammed at sea", while the Yulara, Meteque and other ships were sprayed with water cannons.
"Although the crew members were not injured, the illegal attacks on unarmed humanitarian aid ships constitute war crimes," the GSF fleet wrote on Telegram.
