Chinese firefighters are dispatched to extinguish a fire in Heilongjiang province in July 2023.

"As of 6:40 p.m. local time, 25 people had died in the accident and the injured were being treated in hospital," state broadcaster CCTV reported. Search and rescue efforts are underway and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Local authorities further revealed that there were people injured in the fire and they were taken to hospital, but did not say how many.

The incident comes just five days after a massive overnight fire at a school dormitory in central China's Henan Province killed 13 students, despite the fire being put out relatively quickly, about 38 minutes after it broke out, according to Xinhua.

At the time of the fire, there were about 30 students in the dormitory. The remaining 17 students were evacuated by rescue forces and taken to safety.
