The Investigation Police Agency of Nui Thanh District Police, Quang Nam Province, said it had issued a decision to prosecute the accused and a ban on leaving his place of residence against Nguyen Dinh Kien (41 years old, a social and cultural officer of the People's Committee of Tam Xuan 1 Commune, Nui Thanh District) for the crime of abusing his position and power while performing official duties.

Investigation results determined that Kien is a social and cultural officer of Tam Xuan 1 commune, in charge of the field of labor, war invalids, and social protection.

Besides, carry out social protection activities and poverty reduction programs in the commune.

After the decision to support the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district for cases of serious illness according to Resolution No. 100 of the District People's Council on 5-year socio -economic development (2021-2025) in the district, Kien was assigned to go to the District Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to receive funds and a list of recipients for cases residing in the commune.

According to the procedure, after receiving the funds, Kien must make payments to those eligible to receive the money according to regulations. When receiving the money, he will sign the confirmation list of recipients.

However, Kien took advantage of his position and authority as a social and cultural official to intentionally violate his official duties and not perform his assigned tasks in paying support money to social protection beneficiaries for personal gain, with the amount of money he embezzled being more than 52 million VND.

The case is being further investigated and handled by the Investigation Police Agency of Nui Thanh District Police.
