Introduction to the Five Phoenixes Tower

Ngu Phung Tower (or Ngu Phuong Lau) is a unique architectural work and the most powerful symbol of the Nguyen Dynasty - the last monarchy in Vietnamese history, existing for nearly 150 years. Located majestically on top of Ngo Mon - the main southern gate of Hue Imperial City - Ngu Phung Tower stands out not only for its massive scale but also for its elegant and splendid appearance in the air.

But few people know that "Ngu Phung Lau" is a symbolic name, often used in East Asian royal architecture to express the solemnity and majesty of the royal power. In Hue, that name has become the embodiment of the pinnacle of traditional wooden architecture and Eastern cosmology.

The structure of Ngo Mon Gate consists of two main parts: the platform and the Ngu Phung Tower. The platform has a perpendicular U shape, built of bricks and stones, combined with a system of extremely sturdy brass beams. The platform is nearly 5 meters high, covering an area of more than 1,560 square meters, including the area inside the U.

The Ngu Phung Pavilion was the place where solemn ceremonies were held, where the king appeared before his mandarins and military officers or welcomed envoys. With its special historical and artistic value, this building is not only a symbol of the capital Hue but also the pride of Vietnamese royal architecture.
