"Giant" models

Although it is not yet Mid-Autumn Festival, these days, children in Bac Kan and Duc Xuan wards always look forward to the evening to follow their parents to carry lanterns. The children eat dinner early, study and hold small Mid-Autumn lanterns, to welcome the giant lantern models on the main road.

We met Mr. Truong Cong Luong (born in 1984), in group 6A, Duc Xuan ward - the owner of the mid-autumn lantern models "Dragon" and "Carp watching the moon" that have been shared a lot on social networks in recent days.

When we arrived, Mr. Luong was busy completing the final steps of the "Carp watching the moon" lantern model.

Mr. Luong shared: I started to have the idea of making large Mid-Autumn lanterns since 2024. Initially, my children saw on social networks and really liked the large lantern models in other provinces. I think that not everyone has the conditions to go far away to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, if I can make my own lanterns, it will bring joy to my children and many other children.

In 2024, Mr. Luong's White Swan Mid-Autumn Festival lantern model received the love of many children. In the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, after the Thai Nguyen Province Mid-Autumn Festival Organizing Committee launched the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Parade Competition, many units came up with ideas and ordered lanterns from Mr. Luong.

Each large lamp completed requires a lot of effort, time and money from Mr. Luong. The white dragon model alone took him more than a month to make. In addition to the iron frame, he also ordered the exterior decorative materials from far away. Therefore, many times he had to remove it because the materials were not suitable and did not bring the light and effect as he expected.

With the desire to bring a memorable Mid-Autumn Festival to children, after the models were completed, Mr. Luong asked permission from the units to pick them up early. Not only did he cover the costs such as: gas, fireworks... Mr. Luong also carefully asked the neighborhood leader to go with him and his brothers and sisters to share in ensuring traffic safety.

Currently, in addition to Mr. Luong, there is also a team of mechanics in group 10A, Bac Kan ward who also make giant Mid-Autumn lanterns and organize local processions. Mr. Luong hopes that in the following moon seasons, in addition to individual activities, there will be everyone's cooperation so that children can have beautiful memories of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Lion Dance in the Street

As early as the 1st of the 8th lunar month, some lion dance groups appeared, holding the lion heads, beating drums and walking through every street as an announcement and invitation. After that, the groups would stop at central locations such as: squares, big stores...

At Song Cau Walking Street, the Minh Khai Lion Dance Team consists of more than 20 people with 7 lion heads dancing enthusiastically in the bustling cheers. Established in 2014, after 11 years, the Minh Khai Lion Dance Team still operates regularly, most actively, especially on holidays and Tet.

In Bac Kan ward and Duc Xuan ward, there are currently nearly 10 lion dance teams, most of which are seasonal lion dance teams. Some large teams accept lion dances on holidays and Tet such as Lunar New Year, Children's Day, opening ceremonies, birthdays, etc.

The rest are mostly only served during the Mid-Autumn Festival, dancing in public places. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival is even more exciting when the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Parade Contest with the theme "Thai Nguyen - Sparkling Full Moon Festival Night" gathers communes and wards in the province to participate.

The model and lantern parade competitions will take place in three main areas: Vo Nguyen Giap Square (Phan Dinh Phung Ward), Van Xuan Square (Van Xuan Ward) and Cultural House Square (Bac Kan Ward).

Taking place from October 3 to 4, the event promises to bring children and people a full moon season. Right from the first days of the eighth lunar month, giant lantern models paraded on the streets or colorful lions have created a bustling Mid-Autumn atmosphere throughout the streets.

They are the ones who "call Mid-Autumn Festival to the streets", bringing joy and pride in the traditional beauty of the nation to everyone.
