On September 16, K Hospital announced that the 2025 “Relay Journey” race, coordinated by K Hospital and the Bright Tomorrow Fund, received the attention of thousands of athletes. Among them, the male athlete, the “security guard” of K Hospital, who is also a lung cancer patient, is an inspiration, showing that cancer can be cured.

In May 2017, Mr. Nguyen Tien Phuc felt prolonged fatigue and persistent cough, so he went to K Hospital for examination and was diagnosed with stage III lung cancer.
After a period of mental struggle between treatment and no treatment, he finally decided to follow the doctor's advice and had a lung resection performed 2 months later at the Thoracic Surgery Department, K Hospital. After that, he underwent a rather long recovery process, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy to prevent recurrence.
In December 2017, a few months after his initial recovery, Mr. Phuc was accepted by the Department of Examination and Request to work as a security guard. Since then, for 8 years, he has been persistently attached to his job.
Mr. Phuc's daily work includes welcoming and guiding patients to the clinic, maintaining security and order in the medical examination and treatment area, cleaning, taking care of trees and landscapes, reinforcing tables and chairs, and preserving the department's facilities.
His current residence is also arranged by the department within the campus, convenient for resting and timely support for work. His family has three children, all married and living in many provinces.

Patients coming in and out of the department often call him by the friendly name "security guard" when he guides, transmits positive energy, and encourages everyone to fight to defeat cancer.
The leader of K Hospital said that Mr. Phuc's story spread a strong message: Cancer is not a sentence that ends all dreams and social obligations. The fact that a cancer patient returns to work at the hospital that treated him is a testament to his faith and also shows the connection between the patient and the treatment facility.
"I used to be a cancer patient, so when I meet patients, I understand how they feel. With all my experiences and beliefs, I advise them to never stop hoping, to stay optimistic for treatment and to enjoy life.
In addition, cancer patients should also spend time exercising and moving regularly to constantly receive positive things, improve health, and enhance treatment effectiveness," Mr. Tien shared.
In 2024, Mr. Phuc also participated in the "Relay Journey" race for cancer patients. Participating in the race, Mr. Phuc won the award for "Oldest athlete with outstanding achievements".
Mr. Phuc also registered to participate in the "Relay Journey 2025" race very early.
He shared: “With this activity, sports lovers and those who have fought or are fighting cancer will have the opportunity to express themselves and participate in physical activities with the community.
"The relay journey" has given me a lot of motivation and is also an event that helps me and many older athletes who have fought cancer to feel more confident and happy."
