Jannik Sinner quickly overcame his disappointment at the US Open by returning to winning ways on October 1 at the China Open in Beijing. The Italian defeated Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in the final, winning his third title of the season and his second consecutive ATP 500 title at the tournament.

The win marked Sinner's 21st tour-level final and his first against Tien. The 24-year-old, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, became only the third player, along with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, to win multiple ATP 500 titles. He is also the fourth player in 2025 to win three or more titles, behind Carlos Alcaraz, who leads with eight.

Sinner showed his superior form from the start of the final, denying the 19-year-old Vietnamese player the chance to become the second youngest champion in the history of the tournament. With a high-quality forehand and a steady scoring ability in the middle of the court, Sinner continuously put Tien in a difficult position with powerful attacks in the corners of the court, winning after 72 minutes.

“This is a very special place for me. Thank you to the whole team for understanding and working with me. Not all of the team are here, so hopefully the rest of the team will be watching from home. Thank you for working with me and we will try to improve and work harder, and we will see how the rest of the season goes, but I am very happy to share this trophy with all of you,” Sinner said during the trophy presentation.

Statistically, Sinner scored 24 winners compared to 16 unforced errors, while Tien scored only 11 winners compared to 18 unforced errors. The Italian also saved both break points he faced and won 73% (8/11) of the points at the net.

With this victory, Sinner leaves Beijing 2,590 points behind world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Live Race To Turin, the year-end ATP ranking. Alcaraz won the title in Tokyo yesterday, marking the first time since 2020 that both world No. 1 and No. 2 have won titles in the same week.

Sinner will continue his journey in Shanghai, where he will be the top seed after Alcaraz was forced to withdraw with an ankle injury sustained at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo.

As for Learner Tien, despite losing the final, he moved up 16 places to No. 36 in the ATP live rankings, a career-high. The Vietnamese-born player also qualified for the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second consecutive year. The left-hander is currently second in the ATP Live Race To Jeddah. He defeated Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev en route to the final in Beijing and holds a career record of 7-5 against Top 20 players.
