Abundant vegetable products, stable prices

On the morning of October 23, at Ben Ngu market, one of the city's major markets, the scene was quite peaceful. Despite the rain, the stalls were still open, but there was no longer the hustle and bustle as before the storm. Vegetables, meat and fish were sold in abundance, with stable prices: cabbage 20,000 VND/kg, tomatoes 40,000 VND/kg, pork from 130,000 - 150,000 VND/kg.

“Two days before the storm, people bought a lot, vegetables were almost sold out. Now the market is quieter, everyone has stocked up on food at home. Goods arrived late due to the rain, but there was enough to sell, prices only increased slightly by 1,000-2,000 VND per type,” said Nguyen Thi Lan, a vegetable vendor.

Like Ms. Lan, many traders said that the supply of vegetables from the outskirts such as Huong Thuy and Phu Mau has decreased due to local flooding, but agricultural products from Quang Tri and Da Nang are still coming in regularly. "No shortage, no price increase" - that is the phrase that most traders confirm.

Food supply at markets is stable and unchanging.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thu, a resident of Thuan Hoa ward, said she only went to the market to buy some more green vegetables. “Before the storm, I stocked up on instant noodles, eggs, and dried fish. Now I just buy some more vegetables for a fresher meal, the prices are still normal,” she said.

The atmosphere at GO! Hue supermarket after the storm was also quieter. Although the number of customers was low, the vegetable, fresh food, bread, and dry goods counters were still full. The listed prices were stable: Lettuce 13,000 VND/package, beef from 223,000 - 322,000 VND/kg, pork 113,000 - 188,000 VND/kg.

“Since the beginning of the week, the supermarket has doubled the amount of essential goods imported such as vegetables, rice, noodles, and packaged foods. Thanks to that, during and after the storm, the supply of goods is stable, with no fluctuations in prices. We also coordinate with suppliers to ensure that the transportation flow is not interrupted,” said Ms. Hoang Thi Tuoi, representative of GO! Hue supermarket.

Supermarkets double the amount of essential goods to ensure market demand during stormy days.

According to many traders and residents, this year weather forecasts are updated early, continuously and easily accessible via social networks, mobile applications and local television. Thanks to timely information, people proactively stock up on necessities early, avoiding the psychology of rushing to buy when the storm arrives.

It was this proactiveness that helped the Hue market maintain its normal rhythm after the storm. There was no hoarding, abnormal price increases or shortages of supply. Traditional markets and supermarkets maintained regular operations, ensuring people's shopping needs in the conditions of prolonged heavy rain.

Ms. Tran Thi Ai Nhi, a customer in Vy Da ward, shared: “Now when I go to the supermarket, I see that everything is still full, prices are clear, I feel very secure. This year, there is no more jostling like in previous years.”

According to information from the hydrometeorological agency, the circulation after storm No. 12 will continue to cause heavy to very heavy rain in Hue in the coming days, with the risk of local flooding. Local authorities advise people to closely monitor forecasts, proactively protect their property, and limit going out when the weather is bad. People are advised to shop and store goods at a reasonable level, avoiding excessive hoarding that causes waste.

The City People's Committee issued Plan No. 283/KH-UBND dated July 3, 2025 on reserving goods for natural disaster, flood and storm prevention in 2025, including: 20 tons of rice; 4,000 boxes of instant noodles; 2,000 units of dry food; 100,000 bottles of drinking water (500 ml bottled drinking water); Regarding fuel (gasoline, diesel), businesses with petroleum business activities proactively prepare reserves, ensuring stable and continuous supply when there are forecasts of natural disasters, floods and storms and throughout the rainy and stormy season. The City People's Committee also assigned the People's Committees of communes and wards to proactively choose the appropriate method of reserving, time of reserving, and time of reserving in the management area.
