On the evening of June 20, the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City announced the resumption of student visa processing after a temporary suspension of interview scheduling in May, applicable to both first-time applicants and visa renewal applicants for types F, M, and J, corresponding to the purposes of academic education , vocational training, and exchange programs.
However, according to the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, applicants must now ensure that their social media accounts are set to “public” mode. This is to assist in verifying identity and entry requirements according to US law.

“If you do not provide this information, your visa will be denied. Please be honest, review your visa application carefully and ensure all information is correct before submitting,” the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City said, adding that it will update the interview and visa renewal schedule soon.
Previously, a telegram from the US State Department sent to embassies around the world emphasized the need to “check all online activities of applicants, not just on social networks”. The US State Department said this move is to ensure comprehensive screening of each individual wishing to come to this country.
In May, the Trump administration suspended new interview appointments for student and exchange visa applicants, causing concern among international students, as the lack of a clear date for rescheduling could completely disrupt their years-long study plans in the US.
