On the afternoon of October 17, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City held a workshop on "Orientation for Da Nang tourism development in the new period".
Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trung Luong, a member of the National Tourism Advisory Group, said that after the merger of its boundaries, Da Nang has a great opportunity to reposition itself and make a strong breakthrough.
“First of all, we must affirm the new position of Da Nang , associated with the stature of a regional center. From there, reposition the goals and strategies of tourism development, aiming at the regional and international level, not just stopping at the national level,” he emphasized.

According to Mr. Luong, Da Nang needs to restructure its tourism products in a unique, creative and valuable direction, while rebuilding the destination brand image.
“Previously, Da Nang was the leading event, creative and dynamic destination in the region, while Quang Nam was a heritage and green tourism destination. After the merger, how can we integrate and promote both of these values in a unified strategy?”, he asked.
From a planning perspective, Mr. Luong proposed organizing Da Nang tourism space with key areas including: urban tourism space - developing event tourism, MICE, riverside tourism; sea tourism space - stretching hundreds of kilometers, focusing on resort tourism, sports, cruise ships and marine ecology; cultural tourism space - exploiting heritage values, craft villages, festivals, community experiences; eco-tourism space - associated with national forests, conservation areas, aiming at sustainable development.
He emphasized: “Tourism development is not just a service business but a comprehensive economic sector, bringing value to businesses and local communities. Tourism must be associated with the night-time economy, creative industries, sea and island tourism and experiential agriculture.”
Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trung Luong also suggested that Da Nang strengthen regional connectivity, especially with Hue City, Quang Tri and further the Central Highlands region, forming an open tourism space and spreading development values.
“The goal is for Da Nang to become a top destination, a pioneer in innovating sustainable tourism development models, capable of leading the whole region,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, assessed Da Nang as the economic and tourism center of the Central region, with a strategic location connecting world heritage sites, possessing a modern infrastructure system from airports, seaports to accommodation and entertainment facilities.

After the merger, he said that the space and resources for tourism development will be expanded, creating conditions for Da Nang to become one of the leading tourism centers in Vietnam. The city needs to implement breakthrough solutions, affirming its role as a national growth pole, a gateway to attract international and domestic tourists, and spreading development throughout the region.
Director Nguyen Trung Khanh suggested that Da Nang strengthen inter-regional tourism product linkages with Hue City and Quang Tri; develop heritage tours combined with nature exploration.
He also emphasized the strong development of the night economy, planning separate and safe night entertainment and dining areas to stimulate tourist spending. In addition, Da Nang needs to attract strategic investors to develop high-end beach tourism and resorts, targeting the high-spending customer segment.
Director Nguyen Trung Khanh noted that the city should promote digital transformation, promote brands on digital platforms, standardize human resources and build a management team that meets international standards.
According to him, MICE tourism and night-time economy will be the strategic pillars of Da Nang. The city needs to invest in international-scale convention and exhibition centers, with preferential mechanisms to attract major events in the region and the world, promoting advantages from the successes in organizing international events over the past years.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City said that the city's tourism activities continue to grow strongly, becoming a bright spot in economic development.
In the first 9 months of 2025, the total number of visitors staying in Da Nang is estimated at about 14.4 million, an increase of more than 22% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international visitors reached more than 5.8 million, domestic visitors nearly 8.6 million. Revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, and travel services is estimated at nearly 41 trillion VND, an increase of more than 25% over the same period.
Da Nang identifies two key tourism spaces including:
High-quality tourism, resort and entertainment space, associated with green standards in coastal areas, Son Tra peninsula, Cu Lao Cham, Hon Son Cha, Hai Van, along Han river, Co Co river and western mountainous areas.
Cultural and historical tourism space, associated with the preservation and promotion of heritage values in Hoi An, My Son, craft villages along the Thu Bon River, Ngu Hanh Son spiritual tourism area, Linh Ung Pagoda, museum system and historical relics in the West of the city.
Along with that, Da Nang is implementing key projects such as: free trade zone; international financial center; research to convert Tien Sa port into a tourist port; development of urban railway and completion of river tourism route.
