Warm family love
Every time I come to the facility - where there are so many unfortunate lives, I always have a strange feeling of peace. Because every day here there are the singing and laughter of children, the elderly leisurely walking under the trees or sitting and talking to each other. It is the silent, tireless efforts of the staff here that have built a home that is always warm with love, bringing joy and hope to the less fortunate lives.

Leaders of the Department of Health and the Bac Ninh General Social Protection Facility gave gifts to children being cared for at the unit on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival 2025. |
More than a year ago, Mrs. Hoang Thi The (97 years old) was brought to the facility as a subject in need of emergency protection. She sometimes remembers, sometimes forgets, so she does not know exactly where she was born. She only knows that before coming here, she often wandered around Song Mai commune (old), now Da Mai ward. Having no children, grandchildren, or relatives, and having lived alone for too long, she is very excited to be cared for and gathered at the shelter. In order for the subjects, especially the lonely elderly, not to feel self-conscious, to think positively, in addition to taking care of their daily meals and sleep, the facility always tries its best to arrange resources to visit and give gifts on holidays and Tet. In particular, it regularly coordinates with many units and localities to organize sightseeing activities, cultural and artistic exchanges, contributing to improving the spiritual life, so that the elderly are always optimistic and do not feel lonely.
Each person coming to the facility has their own fate and circumstances, but the most unfortunate are the children who are abandoned by their own relatives. Therefore, each staff member at the facility does not mind the difficulties and hardships to stick with the job. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong (born in 1983) - who has been with the facility for more than 10 years shared: "Every week, everyone takes turns on duty at night, but we rarely get to sleep straight through until morning. Because the elderly or children here are weak, mild cases include headaches, stomachaches, and severe cases require hospitalization at night." During her work, Ms. Huong was assigned to take care of many groups of people, from lonely elderly people to orphaned, disabled, and HIV-infected children. However, for her, the boy Nguyen Van Ty (born in 2008) always receives her special affection. Perhaps because among the pitiful abandoned children, Ty is the most unfortunate. His body has many disabilities. The boy has both hands and feet disabled and also has a cleft palate. Having accompanied Ty through many surgeries at the hospital and when he was sick, Ms. Huong and the other mothers at the shelter were happy because their child had grown up and could go to school and play with his friends.

In addition to the function of managing, caring for, and nurturing social protection beneficiaries and those in need of emergency assistance, the facility also provides consultation and assistance to beneficiaries of social assistance policies; provides social education services and capacity building. Since the beginning of the year, the facility has coordinated with the Industrial Technical College to organize vocational training for under 3 months for 30 disabled children. As a result, 3 children who are old enough to integrate into the community have found jobs at enterprises in the province. Nguyen Thi Ha (born in 2004) is an abandoned child who has been raised at the facility since she was a child. She shared: "When I was young, I was taken care of every little thing, reminded about studying. The love of everyone at the facility helped me overcome my inferiority complex, giving me more determination to study and strive." Ha has just graduated from the Industrial Technical College and was accepted to work at a business in Ngoc Thien commune.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Deputy Director of the facility, said: “The staff and workers at the facility always promote the spirit of solidarity and determination to effectively carry out assigned tasks. In particular, with the love and responsibility of social workers, the staff team focuses on further improving the quality of care, nurturing, assistance, rehabilitation, vocational training, and job creation for the subjects to integrate into the community. In recent times, to improve the effectiveness and professionalism of the sponsorship work, in addition to caring for and nurturing the subjects, the facility has focused on propagating and consulting on the social assistance policies of the State and the province; organizing sightseeing, experience, cultural and artistic exchange activities, improving the spiritual life of the disadvantaged subjects”.
After the merger and streamlining of the apparatus, the actual operations at the facility also encountered difficulties. Therefore, in addition to efforts to implement assigned tasks, the facility wishes to have more appropriate mechanisms and policies to develop social work in a professional direction, especially to encourage association and build a model to provide voluntary care services.
