Former Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to be cremated

Xinhua News Agency reported on October 31 that the body of late Prime Minister Li Keqiang was brought from Shanghai to Beijing on a special flight on October 27.

The cremation ceremony for the body of the late Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang will take place on November 2.

The politician , who left office in March, suddenly passed away early on October 27 after suffering a heart attack at the age of 68.

The cremation ceremony will be held on November 2. To commemorate, the authorities ordered flags to be flown at half-mast across the country, from Tiananmen Square, Xinhua Gate, the Great Hall of the People, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, local governments, Hong Kong and Macau special zones to border gates, seaports, and overseas representative offices.

People lay flowers in memory of Li Keqiang in Zhengzhou, Henan Province on October 29. Li was once the Secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Li Keqiang is a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China for the 17th, 18th and 19th terms (from 2007-2022), and Prime Minister from 2013-2023.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Mr. Li was praised as "an outstanding party member, a staunch communist soldier, a proletarian revolutionary, a prominent politician and leader of the party and state."

Mr. Li’s death shocked many people in China. According to Bloomberg, residents of Hefei, Anhui province, and Zhengzhou, Henan province, where he lived and worked, laid flowers on the streets to commemorate him over the weekend.
