Conspiracy theories about Bill Gates are nothing new to the internet . They have been around for years and have affected the lives of those around him.

During the Covid-19 era, many conspiracy theories have linked him to the pandemic. Some claim that Covid-19 is a cover for the Microsoft co-founder to insert microchips into vaccines to track people.

Phoebe Gates, Gates' youngest daughter and ex-wife Melinda French Gates, said such rumors have damaged her personal relationships. Phoebe is the founder of the fashion platform Phia and is an outspoken activist who often shares her views on gender equality and reproductive rights on social media.

In the documentary series “What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates,” which aired on Netflix from September 18, the 22-year-old woman said she always heard conspiracy theories about her father. “I even had friends who cut ties with me because of the vaccine rumors.”

As a public health graduate from Stanford University, she is interested in disseminating accurate health information.

“I need to learn more because I am still naive in believing that digital communication can be a force that brings us together and has rational debate,” Phoebe Gates shared in the documentary.

One thing about social media that her dad doesn't understand, according to Phoebe, is that truth and logic don't matter to people looking for an escape from everyday life.

In the film, Bill Gates asks his daughter about the origins of conspiracy theories. For Phoebe, they stem from fear. During the lockdown, she says, no one knew who or what to believe.

Bill Gates has previously been amused by conspiracy theories about himself. “When people say I want to spy on everyone – why would I spy on everyone?” he told the BBC earlier this year.
