He scored 12 birdies and only had 1 bogey at hole 3 (par 3), thereby breaking the record for the best round in the history of Vietnam Masters and also breaking the course record.

In addition, Nguyen Tuan Anh - the young representative of Vietnam, had an explosive start with 5 consecutive birdies (starting from hole 10), only making 1 bogey at hole 17, before scoring 4 more birdies in the second half of the round to close the day with 64 strokes (-8). He was only surpassed by Vongchaisit in the last holes.

Another representative of the host, Nguyen Nhat Long, also showed a stable performance, completing the round with 66 strokes (-6), temporarily ranked T3 with Dodge Kemmer (USA) and Naoki Sakito (Japan). In addition, Do Duong Gia Minh and Doan Van Dinh also contributed to the bright spot for the Vietnamese team when they both finished round 1 with 71 strokes (-1).
