Recounting memories of his father, musician Phan Hong Ha - son of musician Phan Huynh Dieu tried to hold back his tears during the exchange program, performing arts, introducing the musical portrait of musician Phan Huynh Dieu - "Phan Huynh Dieu - Love remains".
The program was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the talented musician's birth, jointly organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, the City Music Association, and the City Television Station. The Light Music Center and the Music Department of the City Television Station coordinated to perform on the evening of August 14 at the City Theater.
Comrade Pham Chanh Truc, former Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; Nguyen Tho Truyen, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; musician Nguyen Duc Trinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians' Association; musician Nguyen Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association; Mr. Phan Hong Ha, son of musician Phan Huynh Dieu and family members, representatives of agencies, friends, colleagues and generations of students of musician Phan Huynh Dieu also attended.
Musician Phan Hong Ha shared his happiness of being the son of musician Phan Huynh Dieu. He said: “I will always remember the period from 1964 to 1970 when he went to war. For us, the father-son relationship is unforgettable. Especially, at that time, when the four of us were evacuated, we often climbed jackfruit trees, looked south, remembered our father and sang Tinh trong la thiep .”
True to the name of the program "Phan Huynh Dieu - Love Remains", although the musician passed away nearly a decade ago, the songs and musical legacy he left behind cannot be covered with dust by time.
In the opening sharing of the program, People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, the program's artistic director emphasized: "When implementing this program, the creative team spent a lot of time selecting the works of musician Phan Huynh Dieu from his treasure trove of valuable and diverse works. Because it is not easy to place each song that has deeply engraved the feelings of music lovers in a program with a limited duration."
People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy also briefly summarized his musical journey, from a young age growing up with his father's opera melodies and his mother's lullabies. And, the musical potential in the young man's soul truly brought the golden bird Phan Huynh Dieu flying into the musical sky in 1945 with the song Trau Cau .
Living, attached and fighting side by side with the people of the South and the whole country during those fierce years, the spirit of patriotism was nurtured and burst into musical notes following the rhythm of the march, both heroic and lyrical.
Musician Nguyen Duc Trinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association, called many of his pieces lyrical marches. Although composed during wartime, they were both passionate and emotional. Musician Duc Trinh affirmed that musician Phan Huynh Dieu was a multi-talented, romantic person.
“He will live forever and his music will live forever in our hearts,” said musician Duc Trinh. He also said that this coming November, the Vietnam Musicians Association and his family will organize a special music night in Da Nang . The program will also announce for the first time some of the works of musician Phan Huynh Dieu that have just been rediscovered.
In the program on the evening of August 14, after the emotional opening with On the two ends of nostalgia performed by singer Quang Linh, compositions associated with his life were played one after another on stage.
In part 1 with the theme of Love for the homeland are the compositions: Betel and Areca (performed by: Nguyen Phi Hung, Duong Quoc Hung, Thuy Trinh and sand painting artist Duc Tri), Love of Quang Nam (performed by: Meritorious Artist Van Khanh), Shadow of the Konia tree (poem by Ngoc Anh, performed by: Meritorious Artist Khanh Ngoc), You are at the head of the river, I am at the end of the river (poem by Hoai Vu, performed by: Quoc Dai and Cao Cong Nghia).
Part 2 - The steadfast love in Phan Huynh Dieu's love songs was developed in a variety of familiar songs that were performed: Soldier's Winter (performed by Meritorious Artist Khanh Ngoc), Threads of Memories and Love (poem by Thuy Bac, performed by Duong Quoc Hung - Thi Phuong), Day and Night March (poem by Bui Cong Minh, performed by Phan Ngoc Luan - Truc Lai).
Part 3 - Forever Love is the space for the songs: Late Autumn Love Poem (poem by Xuan Quynh, performed by Ho Trung Dung), Boat and Sea (poem by Xuan Quynh, performed by Giang Hong Ngoc) to captivate the audience even more before the artists participating in the program greet the audience with the emotional and sublime Night Stars .
In particular, on the stage of the program "Phan Huynh Dieu - Love remains", mother and daughter artist Thuc An and singer Hoang Bach brought special performances.
Artist Thuc An was one of the singers of the song “Where are you tonight” when it was first released. After the duet with her son, she recounted the songs by musician Phan Huynh Dieu that had accompanied her for more than half a century across battlefields. However, for a long time she had never seen or met him.
"During a singing exchange, the musician came up to give me flowers and thank me for singing the song, and I got to know him. He was a cheerful, witty, and very sincere person," she recounted.
Then, she and the artists in the program sang the song "Life is still beautiful" in unison, receiving applause from the audience.
The music night ended, but many people still stayed to take pictures with the artists and family representatives, and the emotional feelings seemed to remain intact.
