On October 1, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Hoa, Principal of Vung Tau Secondary School, said that at nearly 10 o'clock, the whole school was in class when suddenly there was a loud explosion followed by an electric shock at the school's power source.
Because the incident was detected early, as soon as the fire broke out, the school mobilized security guards and staff to use fire extinguishers to handle it.
At the same time, school teachers quickly evacuated all 1,400 students from 30 classes to the main gate on Ly Thuong Kiet Street and the side gate on Thong Nhat Street.

On the class's Zalo group, the homeroom teacher notified parents to pick up their children and asked them to inform them when their children returned home safely.
The ward militia, electricity department, and fire department were also present to coordinate in handling the incident. The initial cause was determined to be a power overload.
“The incident was handled promptly so there were no casualties. This afternoon, the school will allow all students to take a day off to re-examine all facilities and the entire school’s electrical system and find solutions. Only when safety is assured will students be allowed to return to school,” the school principal added.
