On October 15, a representative of the Traffic Police Department (PC08), Ho Chi Minh City Police, said that converting paper driving licenses to PET cards has many practical benefits.

PET cards are also an important step in the national digital transformation process and better serve the people. Specifically:
Effective anti-counterfeiting:
PET material has high security, integrated anti-counterfeiting elements and QR code to help authorities easily check and verify information.
Outstanding durability:
PET plastic cards are water-resistant, mold-proof, durable, and compact, overcoming the disadvantages of being easily torn, damaged, and difficult to store of traditional cardboard driving licenses.
Convenient for management of authorities:
When converting paper driving licenses to PET cards, driving license data will be updated and digitized into the database of state management agencies and the National Population Database.
Easily provide information when requested for inspection:
After the conversion, citizens' driving licenses have been digitized and included in the national population database. Citizens will then integrate their driving licenses into the electronic identification application (VneID) and can present or provide driving license number information to the traffic police and other authorities when requested for inspection. This helps people not to need to carry many documents when conducting administrative transactions or participating in traffic.
Convenience in the process of issuing, changing and reissuing driving licenses:
After converting to PET cards, driver's license information will be digitized, so when people need to issue or reissue a driver's license, they can easily do it online on the Public Service portal for issuing and renewing driver's licenses of the Traffic Police Department.
People can do it anywhere, anytime, saving costs and avoiding wasting time and effort when going to the driving license exchange points of the Traffic Police Department, Traffic Police Department and local Commune-level Police.
Citizens can drive abroad:
A PET driving license is a necessary condition for being granted an International Driving Permit (IDP), creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to drive in countries participating in the 1968 Vienna Convention of which Vietnam is a member.
In addition, in some countries, PET driving licenses will make it easier to convert or apply for a driving license in the country where citizens are working, studying, and living, such as: France, Canada, Spain, etc.
During the peak period of general review and data cleaning of Ho Chi Minh City Police from October 8 to December 31, PC08 called on local people to join hands, actively provide driver's license information, coordinate with commune-level police in updating information and converting paper driver's licenses to PET cards.
