Fire Police Department explains why fireproof paint was not accepted

A company in Bac Ninh said they spent billions of dong to paint the entire steel structure of their factory with fireproof paint. However, their project has not been inspected for fire prevention and fighting (PCCC).

Similarly, another business in Ha Nam province also spent hundreds of millions of dong on fireproof paint for its factory but could not have it inspected.

Not only do these businesses spend a lot of money on fireproof paint, but they also spend a lot of money on maintenance and repair of factories and machinery inside the building. This causes businesses to face many difficulties in the process of putting the factory into operation.

Fireproof materials will minimize damage if a fire does occur.

These are just two of many businesses that are facing difficulties and are unable to accept projects related to fireproof paint. According to the businesses, their fire protection design documents are all approved, allowing the use of fireproof paint. However, fireproof paint is not accepted for fire protection.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department said that these problems mainly stem from inaccurate advice from the investor, the investor's lack of understanding of fire prevention and fighting laws, and the contractor's limited capacity.

According to the explanation of the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department, the content of fire prevention and fighting design approval is only through setting fire resistance limits for the structure. This factor will be used as the basis for evaluating the fire resistance level of the structure. This approval will not be related to fire protection solutions for the structure.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department said that many fire prevention design documents propose fire-resistant paint solutions; however, in reality, these solutions are based only on experience and not on the fire-resistant design of the project and the actual fire-resistant ability of the paints currently on the market. This leads to the situation where projects after applying fire-resistant paint are not accepted for fire prevention.

According to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, investors, fireproof paint manufacturers, and construction contractors often consider the use of fireproof paint as the use of paint to complete the interior and exterior without taking into account the technical principles when using this product. Therefore, when completing the project, it does not ensure fire safety and is not accepted.

The proposal to use fireproof paint in the design of building structures is only intended as a guideline for solutions, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department emphasized.

Accordingly, investors, construction units, and designers need to calculate the feasibility of the proposed plan. If the fire protection plan for the building structure is not feasible, there must be an alternative solution to ensure the fire resistance limit.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department also recommends that investors and contractors, when choosing fireproof paint, need to pay close attention, choose products that have been tested, have data related to the fire resistance design of the structure and must be inspected according to regulations.
