National Economics University opens a series of engineering majors

In 2024, the National Economics University (NEU) plans to open 6 new majors, mainly in the field of engineering.

According to the announcement on the evening of January 10 of the National Economics University, the six new majors include Data Science (in the field of Mathematics and Statistics), Software Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Information Security (in the field of Computers and Information Technology), and Labor Relations (in the field of Business and Management).

Of which, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are expected to recruit 100 students each, the remaining 50. Except for Labor Relations, which trains bachelors, the remaining 5 majors will have both bachelors and engineers.

A bachelor's degree program usually lasts 3-4 years, while an engineering degree lasts longer, about 6 months to a year. Normally, an engineering degree is only for technical majors, focusing on intensive practice. This has always been the strength of technical schools such as Giao Thong, Bach Khoa, and Cong..., while business and management schools such as NEU mainly train bachelor's programs.

National Economics University opens Artificial Intelligence major

The National Economics University plans to become a university by 2025. The school said that opening new majors plays an important role in diversifying and expanding training; meeting social needs and enhancing its position in the context of international integration.

NEU's current training scale is about 25,000 full-time students, more than 1,200 staff and lecturers. The number of undergraduate training majors is 60, 28 doctoral training majors. In the development strategy for the period 2021-2030, the school aims to be in the top 5 universities in Vietnam.

According to the Law on Higher Education 2018, universities and colleges are two different concepts. Universities and colleges train and research in many fields, which belong to one or several fields. Meanwhile, universities train and research in many fields, including many member universities and faculties.

To become a university, schools need to ensure three conditions: be assessed by a legal accreditation organization as meeting quality standards; have at least three schools and 10 doctoral training majors, with a full-time student population of over 15,000; and be approved by the direct management agency and investors.

At the end of December, the National Economics University announced its 2024 enrollment plan. The expected quota is 6,200 (not including the 6 majors that will open soon). Of which, the school will directly recruit 2% of the total quota, 18% will be based on the 2024 high school graduation exam scores. The remaining 80% will be recruited in combination with its own plan, eliminating the consideration of academic records.

In 2023, the benchmark score according to NEU's graduation exam score method fluctuates between 8.5-9 points per subject, tuition fees are about 16-22 million VND for the standard program.
