On the morning of October 6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training sent an urgent notice to the People's Committees of wards, communes and affiliated schools about proactively responding to heavy rain caused by the circulation of storm No. 11 (storm Matmo).
Storm No. 10 causes severe flooding in Hanoi
The announcement stated that based on the forecast bulletin at 5:00 a.m. on October 6 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, storm No. 11 had entered mainland China and was rapidly weakening.
Hanoi area is not affected by storm winds, however from noon to night of October 6 there is a possibility of heavy rain, locally very heavy rain (50-100 mm, some places over 150 mm), with a risk of local flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage.
To ensure the safety of students, teachers and school facilities, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires units to closely monitor weather developments; proactively and flexibly adjust teaching and learning plans, ensuring absolute safety for students.
In case students come to school, the school must arrange flexible management and teaching to ensure safety for students and teachers.
Schools proactively check and inspect drainage systems, schoolyards, classrooms, cafeterias, boarding areas, etc.; promptly clear and reinforce them to prevent flooding and landslides.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training reminds schools to strictly follow the on-duty regime, regularly update information, and promptly report on rain and flood situations and impacts on teaching and learning activities (if any) to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
