Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu has continued to add to his collection the classic Porsche 356A Speedster. The car was produced between 1955 and 1959. In Vietnam, the number of Porsche 356A Speedsters can be counted on the fingers. Mr. Vu's car has a white exterior, a rounded, soft shape typical of early German sports cars. In Europe, Porsche 356A Speedsters are currently valued at around $350,000 - $600,000 (equivalent to about 9.2 - 15.8 billion VND), depending on condition and origin. If imported directly from abroad, the cost after tax and transportation can increase the total value to more than 20 billion VND.
In the case of restoring from the old Porsche 356A Speedster chassis, the cost of renewing, replacing components and completing the interior would also cost billions of dong and many months of effort. Inside, the interior of the classic Porsche in Mr. Vu’s collection is quite well preserved. Although it is over 60 years old, the leather upholstery is still intact, with only a few signs of natural “aging”. The gold-plated Porsche lettering on the dashboard has likely been renewed, while the simple 3-spoke steering wheel, without integrated buttons, reflects the minimalist spirit of the 1950s.
The Porsche 356 was the company's first production car, produced from 1948 to 1965, with a total of about 76,000 units. Even though more than half a century has passed, nearly half of the 356 cars are still in good working condition, becoming valuable collectibles for classic car enthusiasts around the world . The 356A Speedster stood out for its light weight, agile handling and pure driving feel – these were the elements that later shaped Porsche's “sports DNA”.
The car is likely equipped with a rear-mounted four-cylinder engine, similar to the Volkswagen Beetle, with a capacity of 1,290 to 1,588 cc, producing 50 - 130 horsepower depending on the version, twice as much as the Beetle of the same period.
