The ASEAN Community Vision 2045 envisions a future where sports are not just a recreational activity but a strategic tool that contributes to the comprehensive development of the region. The vision envisions a sports-driven community that contributes to ASEAN as a hub of sports excellence, promoting peace, social inclusion, health, education and socio-economic development.

The strategic objectives of the ASEAN Sports Work Plan 2026-2030 are based on interim priorities identified through the performance review process. These objectives provide a direct link between the sports sector and ASEAN’s shared vision, covering political-security, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions.

One of the top priorities is to use sport as a tool to promote development and peace. Sport is not just a competition, but also a powerful means to create social cohesion, promote community reconciliation and integration.

In addition, the application of sports science, training and technology is also a key priority. The plan emphasizes the integration of sports science to enhance athlete performance while improving management and education in the community. This creates effective inter-sectoral links with areas such as health and education.

Integrity in sport is also a priority through the promotion of policies and ethical standards to build a clean and fair sports culture. Inclusion is an integral goal, focusing on increasing the participation of disadvantaged groups such as women, youth and people with disabilities, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access and benefit from sport.

Another key aspect of the plan is the recognition of the role of sport in the economy. The plan aims to develop the sports industry and sports tourism, using major events to drive economic growth and create jobs. Professionalisation of the sports industry and engagement with the private sector are seen as drivers to realise this goal.

Last but not least is the focus on sustainable growth. The ASEAN Sports Work Plan emphasizes resource mobilization, partnership building and the integration of environmentally friendly practices into sports infrastructure and events. This includes leveraging concepts such as Green Sports and Green Economy, ensuring that sports development goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility.
