As planned, on October 20, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation consisting of 75 members — including 50 athletes and 15 coaches — will leave for Bahrain to attend the Games, which will take place from October 22 to 30, 2025. Vietnamese athletes will compete in 11 of the 28 sports including athletics, badminton, jujitsu, boxing, judo, wrestling, weightlifting, taekwondo, golf, cycling and muay.
In his speech assigning tasks, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet emphasized that the Asian Youth Games is a major playground of the continent, an opportunity for each athlete to demonstrate their talent, affirm their mettle and devote themselves to the flag and colors of the Fatherland. He also placed his trust in the young generation of athletes, who promise to become the core force of Vietnamese Sports in major arenas such as ASIAD 2026 and Olympics 2028.

The Director requested that all officers, coaches and athletes of the whole delegation uphold the spirit of solidarity, the will to overcome difficulties, compete honestly, and be determined to achieve high results, while strictly complying with the regulations of the delegation and the host country to ensure safety and efficiency throughout the competition.
Receiving the direction of the leaders of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Mr. Dao Duc Kien - Deputy Head of the Department of High Performance Sports, Head of the Vietnam Sports Delegation - sent his thanks to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations and Associations for supporting and accompanying the delegation during the preparation process.

He said that the Asian Youth Games is an arena that gathers many excellent young athletes from strong countries such as China, Japan, Korea, etc., and is a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese athletes to compete, gain experience and become more mature. “We consider this a youth tournament, but it is an important first step towards further goals,” Mr. Kien emphasized.
Representing the athletes, weightlifter Hung Van The expressed his honor to be part of the team and pledged to compete with the spirit of solidarity, friendship and dedication, bringing the beautiful image of Vietnamese sports to international friends.

Held every four years, the Asian Youth Games is an important playground to discover and nurture young talent and evaluate countries' investment capacity for the next generation of athletes. The first Games was held in Singapore in 2009, the second in Nanjing (China) in 2013.
Subsequent editions in Sri Lanka (2017) and Indonesia (2017, scheduled) were both cancelled, as was the 2021 edition due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. After more than a decade of interruption, Bahrain officially became the host country of AYG 2025, replacing Uzbekistan.
In its history of participation, Vietnam had achieved excellent results at the 2013 Games with 5 gold medals, notably Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (3 gold medals in swimming), Ly Hoang Nam (1 gold medal in tennis) and Nguyen Thi Truc Mai (1 gold medal in athletics). The return of this year's Games is an opportunity for Vietnamese sports to affirm its investment direction for young forces, continue tradition and arouse the aspiration to reach the continental level.
