On October 21, the Vietnam women's national team officially entered the first training session of the third training session in 2025 to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games, taking place in Thailand next December.

The 26 players on the call-up list have arrived in full, settled down and started their first training session that same afternoon. Head coach Mai Duc Chung said: “Currently, 26 athletes have gathered in full. Some coaches and players of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club are still unable to attend because they are preparing for the Asian Women's Club Championship taking place in November. In the coming time, the team will continue to train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, with a plan to play 3 friendly matches from now until November 20th.”

This time, there are some notable changes in the squad. Veteran midfielder Tuyet Dung, who has officially started training locally, will not be present this time. Meanwhile, key players such as Huynh Nhu and Pham Hai Yen are still called up due to their physical and professional fitness. Some young faces are called up for the first time to replace the absent veterans. Among them, Thanh Hieu and Tran Nhat Lan are two names that the coaching staff highly appreciates for their potential and promise to soon integrate into the team's general playing style. In another development, three players Thai Thi Thao, Duong Thi Van and Ngan Thi Van Su are currently practicing separately to recover from injuries, waiting for the day to return.

Talking about the appearance of young faces, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “We hope that they and their sisters will practice their best to strive to be on the list of participants in the upcoming SEA Games; in the context that the veteran players are getting older and always want to give up their positions to talented young players. The coaching staff also hopes that the young players will progress quickly to catch up, and at the same time always create conditions for them to strive.”

“We all know that other countries also invest a lot in their teams, such as naturalizing a lot of athletes, causing difficulties for us - Vietnamese people are short and weak. But in return, we have a quick and agile spirit and will. The VFF leadership continues to create many conditions for the national women's team to compete and train abroad, to compete with better players so that we can learn and gain experience,” said Mr. Chung.

From November 20, the women's team will go to Japan for training and is expected to play 3 friendly matches with "blue team" clubs with the appropriate level of expertise according to the coaching staff's ideas, arranged by the Japan Football Federation. After the training session, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City to get used to the weather conditions similar to Thailand, before moving to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.

Coach Mai Duc Chung also added: “The team has had many opportunities to compete with strong opponents such as France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and recently the Australian women's youth team at the Southeast Asian tournament. Although their physique and physical strength are still limited, Vietnamese players have a resilient fighting spirit and endurance. During this period, the coaching staff will increase physical and tactical exercises to improve their ability to play close matches.”

This is the SEA Games where the Vietnamese women's team needs to boldly test out the young faces. That will be an opportunity for the players to prove their worth. Moreover, this will also be a stepping stone for Vietnamese women's football to move towards the continental and world arenas.

Nam Dinh FC determined to create a surprise against Gamba Osaka

Speaking at the press conference before the match, coach Vu Hong Viet affirmed that Nam Dinh Club will try to create a surprise in the away match at Gamba Osaka Stadium in the third round of the group stage of AFC Champions League Two 2025-2026.

Coach Vu Hong Viet shared: “This is an important match because both we and our opponents are competing for the top spot in the table, having won two games before. I am very impressed with Gamba Osaka’s midfield – they have two extremely high-quality central midfielders. In addition, their domestic striker wearing the number 7 shirt is also very dangerous. Those are the names that we need to pay special attention to in this match.”

Captain Lucas Alves added: “Teams from J.League are always very strong and Gamba Osaka is no exception. However, we have some experience from facing Hiroshima last season. It won’t be easy, but the whole Nam Dinh team will give their all in tomorrow’s match.”

Previously, Nam Dinh FC had a favorable start in AFC Champions League Two when they defeated Ratchaburi (Thailand) 3-1 at home in the opening match and defeated Eastern FC (Hong Kong, China) 1-0 away in the second match. The two victories helped the team from the city of Nam Dinh have the same 6 points as Gamba Osaka and share the top two positions in Group F, in which the Japanese representative is temporarily ranked higher thanks to a better goal difference. The match between Gamba Osaka and Nam Dinh FC will take place at 5:00 p.m. on October 22 (Vietnam time). This is considered the key match of Group F, which could be decisive in the race for the top spot in the group and a place in the knockout round.
