Vietnam team makes strong progress on FIFA rankings

With two consecutive wins against Nepal in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team received good news from FIFA when it moved up 3 places on the FIFA rankings, ranking 111th in the world according to statistics from the Footy Ranking website.

Before entering the FIFA Days series in October, the Vietnamese team ranked 114th in the world . Coach Kim Sang-sik's team was awarded 13.7 points after 2 wins against Nepal, thereby raising the total score to 1,183.6. This score helped the Vietnamese team increase 3 places, to 111th in the world and second in Southeast Asia.

Thailand continues to lead the Southeast Asian region. This team also had two successful matches in the recent 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers when they won 2-0 and 6-1 against Chinese Taipei and increased 5 places, to 96th.

Meanwhile, despite being the only representative of Southeast Asia to participate in the 4th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Indonesia could not maintain its form. Two consecutive defeats against Saudi Arabia (2-3) and Iraq (0-1) caused the team from the archipelago to lose significant points, falling from 119th to 122nd place in the world, losing third place to Malaysia. The Malaysian team regained third place from Indonesia.

The remaining positions of Southeast Asia in the October ranking are respectively Philippines (141), Singapore (155), Myanmar (163), Cambodia (179), Brunei (185), Laos (188), Timor Leste (197). In the world top 10, Spain is still leading, followed by Argentina, France, England, Portugal, Brazil... FIFA rankings are usually compiled monthly to calculate seed groups before the draws of tournaments in the FIFA system.
