Choose the way to enter the military dream

Although the work of selecting and calling citizens to join the army in 2026 is still in its early stages, the spirit of youth volunteering in Vinh Thong ward has spread quickly. Up to now, the ward has 9 young people voluntarily applying to join the army, including 1 party member and 1 young person with a university degree.

Promoting revolutionary tradition

Among the typical faces is young man Le Thanh Quy (19 years old), living in Soc Cung quarter, Vinh Thong ward, who just graduated from high school in 2025. Born into a family with a revolutionary tradition, his grandparents participated in the resistance war to save the country, his father was a party member, Quy was soon instilled with the ideal of serving the country while still in school.

Since 9th grade, Quy dreamed of one day wearing the army uniform. “The image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers marching solemnly and strongly, then being close and friendly when helping people in flooded areas or guarding the border moved and impressed me. I hope one day I can be like them, contributing to protecting my homeland,” Quy shared.

Determined to become a soldier, in 2025, Quy applied to the Border Guard Academy but was not accepted. Undaunted, he volunteered to join the army, ready to try again. “I asked my father for his opinion, and he said that joining the army might be difficult at first, but you will get used to it. I think that if you are determined, nothing is impossible. If I do not meet the requirements this year, I will continue to apply next year,” Quy affirmed.

Currently, Quy maintains daily exercise to ensure his physical fitness before the upcoming military draft. “I am 1.72m tall and weigh 73kg, but I am not complacent. I regularly play soccer and exercise to be ready to serve anywhere if I am selected,” Quy said.

Young party members volunteer to join the army

Tran Tien Dat (18 years old), residing in Ta Keo Vam quarter, Vinh Thong ward, is an active member of the Youth Union and was honored to be admitted to the Party in June 2025 at Ngo Si Lien High School. Not only actively participating in Youth Union activities, Dat also early nurtured the ideal of serving the country in a military environment.

“My grandparents participated in the resistance war. Through the activities of the Youth Union, I understood that young people have the responsibility to contribute to building and protecting the Fatherland. Knowing that my academic performance is only average and it is difficult to get into military schools, I decided to volunteer to join the army, hoping to contribute to the army for a long time,” Dat shared.

Dat learned to help his family early. After graduating from high school, while waiting for military service, he and his mother worked as factory workers. “My father is a fisherman, my mother is a Khmer woman who works as a factory worker. I followed my mother to work, both to earn an income and to train myself before joining the army,” Dat said. The support of my family is the motivation for Dat to firmly follow the path he has chosen. “My father and mother respect my decision, helping me to have faith in my choice,” Dat confided.

Deputy Commander of the Vinh Thong Ward Military Command Nguyen Viet Cuong said: “The young people who volunteered to join the army showed their pioneering spirit and responsibility to continue the tradition of their ancestors, ready to go when the Fatherland calls their name. In the coming time, the ward will continue to promote propaganda so that more and more citizens will proactively write applications to volunteer to join the army, contributing to improving the quality of military recruitment work.”
