Russian army's counterattack north of Pokrovsk city
The Russian army "turned danger into safety" at the "salient" of Dobropolye, and at the same time strongly attacked the area of the two cities of Pokrovsk and Kupyansk.

After the operation in Russia's Kursk region, the Ukrainian army (AFU), suffering heavy losses, was forced to switch from a multi-front offensive to a comprehensive defense. Northern Donetsk and southern Kharkiv are now the key defense areas of the AFU. In the north of Donetsk, the city of Pokrovsk, the Dobropolye salient and Kostiantynivka, the AFU deployed not only several elite units, but also the entire reserve force. However, the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which included the 1st Azov Army, ultimately failed to recapture the Dobropolye salient.
Starting on October 5, the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) continued to expand the Dobropolye salient. With the supply route to Kucheriv Yar opened, the Russians completely recaptured the village of Nykanorivka, reinforced the foot of the salient, and attempted to regain control of the T-0514 axis. The latest battlefield maps show that the Russians have taken full control of the village of Novoekonomichne, considered to be the eastern outskirts of the city of Pokrovsk. The RFAF will use this place as a bridgehead for a full-scale assault on Myrnohrad. The attack in the direction of Myrnohrad forced the AFU command to disperse its reserves, creating an opportunity for the Russian ground offensive on Pokrovsk. Coupled with the panic caused by the defeat at Dobropolye, the Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk were forced to retreat further behind the railway line, forming a “non-demarcated” front in the city. The situation in the Dobropillya salient continues to deteriorate for the AFU, according to the Russian Military Review. After capturing Ivanivka on the western flank of the salient, the Russians have moved north, targeting the village of Zolotoy Kolodez, where they were forced to retreat during a recent AFU counterattack. On the evening of October 8, the RVvoenkory channel reported that units of the RFAF Central Group of Forces, having captured the village of Ivanivka and advanced near the village of Zatyshok, then entered the village of Zolotoy Kolodez, capturing the southern outskirts and part of the village center.
“Fierce fighting is currently taking place in Zolotoy Kolodez, as Ukrainian troops try to push Russian troops out of the village, but are unsuccessful; RFAF uses both thermobaric artillery and UMPK glide bombs to support infantry fighting, causing heavy losses to the Ukrainian counterattack,” the “Whisper of the Front” channel reported. It is worth noting that this was the second time the RFAF had taken Zolotoy Kolodez; the first was almost two months ago, but General Syrsky, having quickly rallied reserves from across the front, drove the Russians out of the village in a counter-offensive. The RFAF had just captured Zolotoy Kolodez at that time, so they could not organize a solid defense; under the pressure of the Ukrainian army's attack, they quickly retreated, leaving the area to be turned into a "kill zone" by Russian artillery and air force. When the AFU counterattack force weakened and "ran out of breath", the Russian infantry continued to counterattack. A similar situation occurred south of Pokrovsk, where the reserve forces of the AFU Dnipro Group, commanded by General Drapatoy, launched a fierce counterattack, forcing the Russians to withdraw from the positions they had captured on the outskirts of the city. However, two months later, the Russians recaptured the city, with heavy losses for the Ukrainians. RFAF reported that in the Pokrovsk region, by the evening of October 6, Russian infantry, supported by air and ground fire, had captured all the high-rise areas of the city. From these heights, looking north, Ukrainian defensive positions north of the miners' housing area were clearly visible. Ukrainian soldiers posted on social networks that foreign mercenaries and the Azov Battalion had retreated to the western outskirts of Pokrovsk.
If the Russians take advantage of the fact that Pokrovsk is a “magnet” attracting Ukrainian troops to it, to advance faster in South Donetsk, they will continue to advance westward to Dnepropetrovsk province to “strengthen defenses”. In the usual words of the AFU commander, the city of Pokrovsk will soon “become unimportant”! The so-called “no longer important” actually means “almost impossible to maintain”. The Russian Defense Ministry ’s war report shows that not only Pokrovsk is “no longer important”, but so is Kupyansk! The latest Russian war report on October 7, citing information from the Kupyansk front, said that the RFAF had completed the encirclement of the city center. The remaining Ukrainian troops in Kupyansk have largely retreated to “guerrilla warfare”; fierce fighting is taking place in the suburbs leading to Kupyansk-Uzlovaya. The Russian Defense Ministry revealed that it has taken control of 5,667 of the 8,667 buildings in Kupyansk, equivalent to two-thirds of the city.
In addition, the Military Summary channel said that the RFAF has surrounded a large AFU force in Kupyansk. Three brigades of the Ukrainian 10th Army, responsible for defending Kupyansk, are trapped east of the Oskil River. The RFAF is currently “luring” the Ukrainian 143rd and 144th Brigades east of the city to come to the rescue, which, if successful, will help them destroy at least five Ukrainian brigades and advance straight to the outskirts of Kharkov. Judging by the current situation, the AFU commander will also soon declare that “Kupyansk is no longer important”. (photo source: Military Review, Rvvoenkory, Kyiv Post).
