Groundbreaking ceremony for two salt-prevention sluice projects worth over 130 billion VND in Dong Thap

On the morning of October 20, in Long Tien commune, Dong Thap province, the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction package of Tra Tan culvert and culvert 26-3. These are works under the Project to invest in building a saline prevention culvert system at the ends of canals and ditches leading to Tien River on Provincial Road 864, phase 1.

The construction package of Tra Tan culvert and culvert 26-3 is invested by the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Dong Thap Province. The project has a winning bid value of over 131.2 billion VND. The winning bidder is a consortium of Tien Giang Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company 40, Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company 116. The construction period is 420 days.

According to the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Dong Thap Province, Tra Tan culvert is designed as an open-air structure with M300 reinforced concrete, including a culvert compartment 26m wide, threshold elevation -5.5m; working bridge; connecting road; electrical system; Scada system. In particular, culvert 26-3 is designed as a reinforced concrete box culvert, 2.5m wide, 22m long; road above the culvert; electrical system.

Director of the Dong Thap Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Investment Project Management Board Nguyen Dam Thanh Tuyen said that after the completion of Tra Tan Sluice and 26-3 Sluice, along with the 6 invested sluices and Nguyen Tan Thanh Sluice invested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in 2024, it will contribute to creating a closed sluice system to prevent salinity, store fresh water, prevent high tides, adapt to climate change, effectively protect production and people's lives to serve the people.

The Dong Thap Agricultural and Rural Development Construction Investment Project Management Board and participating units will continue to promote the achieved results and are determined to complete the project ahead of schedule, expected to be completed in October 2026.

At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Dieu requested the investor and contractors to shorten the construction time by about 3 months, completing it no later than October 20, 2026. If completed earlier, the Provincial People's Committee will reward. Dong Thap province strongly promotes the role of the irrigation system as a pillar in agricultural development, especially after the merger with the expanded scale of the area and larger production areas. Thereby, it contributes to proactively responding to natural disasters, drought and salinity, and improving productivity, crop value and restructuring the agricultural sector towards sustainability.

Currently, the irrigation system in the province has been invested in, upgraded and renovated relatively completely by the State and the people, basically meeting the needs of production, people's lives, travel and goods transportation of people in the area. Up to now, the province has invested in and upgraded 5,099 canal system works with a total length of 10,550 km; 6,673 sewer system works and pumping stations.

Thanks to the investment, the irrigation system has effectively promoted its functions, especially in preventing floods, preventing salinity, preventing tides and storing fresh water to serve production and people's lives in the area. This irrigation system basically ensures irrigation and drainage for about 435,825 hectares of agricultural land.
