The workshop was organized by Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee in coordination with O-DOOR Vietnam Co., Ltd. Attending the workshop were Major General Tran Quang Tuan - Commander of Coast Guard Region 2; Mr. Tang The Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ); representatives of departments, branches and sectors of Gia Lai province; associations, enterprises, banking institutions and investors and representatives of international organizations.
On the business side, there were Mr. Franz-Josef Claes - Chairman of GEO Group (Federal Republic of Germany); Ms. Mai Thi Ngoc Thuy - General Director of O-DOOR Vietnam Co., Ltd.; Mr. Tran Van The - representative of INDEL Petro Vietnam Co., Ltd.

Gia Lai has great potential for renewable energy.
At the workshop, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan affirmed: The total renewable energy potential of the whole province is estimated at 23,000 MW, enough to make Gia Lai become the renewable energy industrial center of the Central and Central Highlands regions.
Gia Lai is strategically located in the center of the East-West and North-South axes, connecting the Central Coast, Central Highlands and Laos, Cambodia and the Mekong sub-region.
Along with that is a diverse ecosystem, 134 km of coastline, 80 km of border and potential for high-tech agriculture , renewable energy, industry, services and logistics... All are conditions for Gia Lai to develop comprehensively, towards a modern, dynamic and sustainable province.
“Gia Lai province has both the sunny and windy Central Highlands and the sunny coastal areas with high solar radiation, along with a rich system of waterfalls, rivers and lakes. This is the foundation for comprehensive development of renewable energy types such as: onshore and offshore wind power, solar power, hydropower, biomass power, waste-to-energy, geothermal power” - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee affirmed.

In addition, the average solar radiation intensity reaches 4.6-5.2 kWh/m²/day with a total of 1,900-2,200 hours of sunshine per year, which is an ideal condition for Gia Lai to deploy solar power projects. In addition to the ground-based solar power system, the province is also aiming for a floating solar power model in large irrigation and hydropower reservoirs such as: Nui Mot, Thuan Ninh, Hoi Son, Dong Mit, Ia Ly, Se San, Ia Mor, Dong Minh.
Along with that, the average wind speed is about 6-7m/s, helping Gia Lai become a land with strong potential for wind power development, especially in areas such as: Kong Chro, Chu Prong, Mang Yang, Van Canh, Vinh Thanh... With a 134 km long coastline, Gia Lai has great potential to develop offshore wind power projects. In addition, the province also has advantages in hydropower development, especially in the mountainous areas in the West of the province when there are Se San River, Ba River... forming a rich mixed energy system.
According to the adjusted power plan VIII, the total capacity of renewable energy projects in Gia Lai is more than 9,000 MW, which is the foundation for the province to become a clean and sustainable energy center of the region.

Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized: Gia Lai not only focuses on developing renewable energy projects, but also cares about developing human resources for renewable electricity. Recently, the province has announced calling for investment in the project of training center and developing human resources for renewable energy, moving towards building high-quality human resources to serve the sustainable development of the industry.
In recent times, many renewable energy projects in the province have been put into operation, contributing to ensuring energy security. These projects also create jobs, increase income for people, contribute to the local budget and promote the development of services, trade and logistics.
“Up to now, the whole province has 61 hydropower projects with a total capacity of 2,736 MW; 17 wind power projects with a total capacity of 916 MW; 7 solar power projects with a total capacity of 590 MWp and 2 biomass power projects with a total capacity of 130 MW that have come into commercial operation” - the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee informed.
Contribute to making Gia Lai a center of renewable energy
At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing energy sources that are contributing to shaping Vietnam's energy future; at the same time, sharing experiences, exchanging and identifying opportunities, risks and creating practical solutions for the national energy transition process.

Mr. Tang The Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said: On August 20, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 70/NQ-TW on ensuring national energy security until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The resolution emphasizes that energy must be one step ahead, providing adequate, stable, high-quality supply for socio-economic development, national defense-security and people's lives; at the same time, developing synchronously, diversifying types, prioritizing renewable energy and new energy.
Along with that, the adjusted power plan VIII also sets a target that by 2030, the total power capacity of the country will reach 183-236 GW, in which renewable energy accounts for 25-30% of the total primary energy supply. By 2050, Vietnam strives to achieve the Net Zero target, bringing net greenhouse gas emissions to 0.
“In that general picture, Gia Lai emerges as a strategic locality, fully converging the conditions to become the renewable energy center of the Central Highlands and the whole country. In particular, Gia Lai has launched the Renewable Energy Human Resources Training and Development Center with the participation of GEO Group (Federal Republic of Germany) and O-DOOR Vietnam Co., Ltd. This is a pioneering step, laying the foundation for the locality to become a renewable energy human resources training center for the Southeast Asia region,” Mr. Hung commented.

O-DOOR Vietnam Co., Ltd. is a companion of GEO Group (Federal Republic of Germany) to "initiate" the Center for training and developing renewable energy human resources in Gia Lai.
In the context of Vietnam's serious shortage of high-quality human resources for the renewable energy sector, the Center not only trains a team of engineers, experts and skilled workers, but also helps them master core technologies of wind power, solar power, green hydrogen and energy storage. This is an educational project, as well as a foundation to ensure national energy security.
“We expect universities and businesses to strengthen their connection according to the “ordering” model of human resource training. International partners will continue to accompany us, not only with technology but also with the spirit of cooperation and development. And management agencies will continue to improve the policy framework, creating a favorable environment for private enterprises to promote their pioneering role in the new energy era,” said Mai Thi Ngoc Thuy, General Director of O-DOOR Vietnam Co., Ltd.

Delegates also frankly acknowledged the current challenges facing Gia Lai, such as: The power transmission system is not yet synchronized, many projects have to wait for capacity clearance; policies and mechanisms are still in the process of being completed; environmental and land issues and people's consensus have not been resolved harmoniously.
In particular, the requirement for advanced technology, large capital and high-quality human resources are barriers for many local enterprises. In addition, the progress of many power projects is still slow; energy potential has not been effectively exploited...
“This workshop is of great significance, helping the locality find effective solutions, promoting strong and sustainable development in the field of renewable energy. Renewable energy development cannot be an individual effort, but requires close cooperation between the government, businesses, financial institutions, research institutes and the community” - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized.

The Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee also expressed his wish that domestic and foreign enterprises and corporations would share experiences, advanced technologies, and propose effective investment solutions; and that scientists and experts would contribute scientific and objective opinions, helping the province have a basis for appropriate policy planning.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan believes that Gia Lai will open up new cooperation opportunities with specific projects, contributing to making the province become the leading renewable energy center of Vietnam.
