Facebook adds challenges and badges for KOLs to interact with fans

Facebook is rolling out features aimed at bringing fans closer to the creators they love. Features include fan challenges and customized badges for top fans.

The fan challenges feature will allow creators to suggest specific challenges to their followers. Followers can participate by creating a reel-style video or a response post.

To encourage more engagement and participation, the specific challenge hashtag will appear on the leaderboard, ranking entries in order of the number of interactions received.

These types of challenges are popular on short-form video platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, where users can participate in informal dance challenges or dance to trending audio clips.

Facebook is formalizing this trend into an actual feature by creating a landing page for specific creator challenges.

There are more badges to award to fans than just "Top Fan".

In one example, Facebook suggests cooking creators can celebrate fall by inviting fans to share videos of their favorite recipes that involve pumpkin ingredients.

Kalen Allen, a content creator with 3.6 million followers on Facebook, tested the feature with a challenge asking fans to make videos about their dreams and goals, and received about 520 submissions.

Meta says fans have submitted 1.5 million entries in the past three months, while the feature was in testing.

Facebook also lets creators customize the “superfan” badge that appears next to the usernames of the people who engage most with their content. So instead of just being considered an “superfan” of Ed Sheeran, you can become a “Sheerio,” if you like.

Other celebrities like Cardi B and J Balvin have also turned on custom badges.

Facebook is generally not seen as being as creator-focused as Instagram, which recently celebrated the milestone of 3 billion monthly active users.

It's like the kind of thing you'd read about in a Facebook group near your house about the latest bike lane news, or where you'd stumble across AI Shrimp Jesus.
