Surveying an e-commerce site selling alcohol concentration meters, the reporter noted that there were hundreds of stores selling them.
The most expensive device is up to 41.7 million VND. It is the Lifeloc FC20 breath alcohol meter (USA) (0.0 - 3.0 mg/l, no mouthpiece). The company selling this device is located in Thai Binh . This company commits to genuine imported products.
Meanwhile, the cheapest breathalyzer costs only 22,500 VND. This breathalyzer has no brand.
Talking to Lao Dong about the need to buy an alcohol concentration meter, Mr. Nguyen The Anh, from Nam Dinh , currently living in Hanoi, said: "I myself am very aware that if I drink alcohol, I should not drive. However, I still wonder, if I drink alcohol in the evening with friends and partners, will my alcohol concentration be gone when I wake up the next morning? Therefore, I want to buy an alcohol concentration meter to check myself.
If I still had alcohol in my system, I would not drive. However, after researching online, I found all kinds of breathalyzers. I cannot tell which are real and which are fake.
Discussing this issue, Lawyer Nguyen Thu Trang - Hung Dao Thang Long Law Office said that alcohol concentration measuring devices are not prohibited devices, however, this is a conditional business item so the seller must fully meet the standards to be able to sell on the market.
Previously, a leader of the Traffic Police Department's Propaganda Department said that the alcohol concentration measuring device equipped for the Traffic Police force during patrols, control, and handling was imported from Australia and other advanced countries, and had been inspected by the Ministry of Science and Technology , ensuring technical parameters according to standards.
According to current regulations, these devices must meet the inspection standards according to the Vietnamese technical measurement document DLVN 107:2012 of the Ministry of Science and Technology on breath alcohol measuring devices, and be granted inspection certificates such as inspection stamps, inspection marks, and inspection certificates according to regulations. Regarding errors, the standard allows an error of 0.020 mg/L or 0.004% BAC for initial inspection; or 0.032 mg/L or 0.006% BAC for periodic inspection. The inspection cycle for alcohol measuring devices is once a year.
