The article High prices, difficulty in catching a car, unexpected cancellations, readers waiting for more stable service from Grab posted on Tuoi Tre Online on January 21 attracted many interested readers to comment.
Some readers who are technology drivers share their concerns about why they have to turn off the app and cancel trips during the days before Tet.
Overcoming traffic jams, arriving at the place where 'customers'... cancel the trip
Reader Thanh Son said that during rush hour, drivers sometimes have to travel 2-3km to get to the pick-up point. After picking up passengers, the distance is only about 4km but it takes more than 1 hour due to traffic jams.
According to reader TX, in recent days due to serious traffic jams, drivers have had to work very hard to get to the pick-up location. However, drivers often have their trips canceled because customers book multiple apps at the same time, the first car to arrive leaves the cars that arrive later.
"That customer's action took up many cars at the same time, so of course other customers had difficulty booking a car. Because of that, drivers were also afraid and often canceled trips in crowded places or pick-up points that were too far away," the reader wrote.
Also discussing the story of a customer canceling a trip, reader Tyzil said that when a driver cancels a trip, the customer complains about the impact on work, but when a driver takes a long trip and cancels as soon as he gets close to the customer, who will cry for the driver in this case?
Continuing, reader Dinh Phuc shared that during rush hour, traffic jams are everywhere. When the driver has confirmed the time and pick-up point, and has come from afar, but the "gods" cancel the trip without giving a reason, they can only accept it.
Reader with email address phan****@gmail.com added: Technology car companies need to pay attention to the criteria when a customer orders a car, they must prioritize the nearest driver, instead of choosing a good driver but living far away to pick up. That will lead to frustration for both the driver and the customer.
Run longer, income does not increase
Many readers believe that in addition to external factors such as traffic jams and unreasonable trip cancellations, the discount rate, actual fares, and drivers' income compared to the effort spent traveling during peak traffic jam days at the end of the year are also reasons that make drivers frustrated.
According to reader Minh Tran, due to traffic jams, trips take a long time to complete, pickups take a long time, and deliveries are always problematic. When drivers are preoccupied with many things, the service is obviously not good, leading to them stopping to run, turning off the app, and avoiding areas with traffic jams.
Adding another opinion, a reader shared that the fare for the long traffic jams was not commensurate with the effort, the app should have only deducted a percentage of the normal price (when there was no traffic jam, not increasing the total fare) which would have been more suitable for the drivers.
A reader with the email address trun****@gmail.com added: "Travel time is 2-3 times longer but income does not increase, not to mention the regulation that a day cannot run more than 8 hours. The driver was right to turn off the app."
In conclusion, reader Teo stated that if you don’t use Grab, there are still many other ride-hailing apps and other forms. Grab is a form of tout and takes a percentage of each ride.
"I think it's time for the authorities to clearly inspect the percentage that Grab has received on each ride (including VAT and personal income tax that Grab has collected to pay to the state budget)," a reader wrote.
