Pig prices have decreased across the board, many localities have passed the peak of African swine fever.

* Pig price in the Northern region recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, Lao Cai province adjusted down 1,000 VND/kg to the lowest level in the region at 48,000 VND/kg.

The remaining localities maintain purchasing prices in the range of 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

Pig price today in the North is around 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions decreased by the highest 2,000 VND/kg.

Of which, the two provinces of Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan traded at 47,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg and 2,000 VND/kg respectively.

Live pigs in Nghe An and Lam Dong were traded at 48,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg.

Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 47,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

In detail, after a reduction of VND1,000/kg, localities including Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau and Tra Vinh all purchased live pigs at VND48,000/kg.

49,000 VND/kg is the transaction price recorded in Vinh Long, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang after decreasing by 1,000 VND/kg.

Pigs in Long An are purchased at 50,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 VND/kg.

* According to industry experts, many localities have shown signs of passing the "peak" of African swine fever and the supply of pigs to the market is no longer as strong as in previous days, causing the downward trend in live pig prices to no longer be strong.

Currently, only the Southern region is still abundant in pork supply to the market. The price of live pigs traded in most localities in this region is below 50,000 VND/kg. There are areas where the pressure to sell off the epidemic has caused the price of pigs to be only 47,000 VND/kg.

Experts say that pig prices will have a chance to increase again when the pressure on the supply of pigs infected with the disease decreases.

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in November 2023, the country had 61 outbreaks of African swine fever in 19 provinces and cities. The total number of pigs culled was 1,448. Since the beginning of the year, the country has had 582 outbreaks in 44 provinces and cities; the total number of pigs culled was 24,549.

There are currently 125 outbreaks in 67 districts of 27 provinces that have not passed 21 days. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of outbreaks decreased by 57.61%; the number of pigs that had to be destroyed at outbreaks decreased by 62.02%.
