African swine fever subsides, Gia Lai "starts" safe pig herd restoration
Unexpected move in Gia Lai: As the African swine fever epidemic has subsided, farmers are rushing to restore their herds to supply the market at the end of the year. However, behind this revival are "bloody" lessons about biosafety.
The pig market in Gia Lai is showing positive changes. According to Mr. Huynh Ngoc Diep, Head of the Gia Lai Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the province's pig herd is currently around 1.5 million. Since the end of June, African swine fever outbreaks have only appeared sporadically in a number of small-scale farms, with the total number of culled pigs being just over 1,000 in 22 communes and wards.
So what is the reason Gia Lai has been able to prevent widespread disease outbreaks? Expert Huynh Ngoc Diep said that large-scale livestock farms have strictly implemented biosecurity measures as recommended by the authorities. This is an effective "shield" that helps them avoid heavy losses.
These farms have built a surprisingly tight disease prevention process, controlling every little detail. They ensure full vaccination, regular disinfection and sterilization of barns. In particular, the control of people and vehicles entering and leaving the livestock area is extremely strict. Even feed trucks must undergo a strict disinfection process.
In addition, large farms are proactive in the breeding stage. They produce their own breeds or import them from reputable facilities, ensuring disease safety. Workers entering the farm must also comply with quarantine and disinfection regulations.
Thanks to these "root-to-root" control measures, the African swine fever pathogen had no chance to penetrate and spread, helping the Gia Lai pig farming industry to recover quickly and confidently restore herds.
