5-layer biosecurity solution – Golden key for Vietnam's pig farming industry
The Vietnam Association of Veterinary Science and Technology recently held an important workshop in Hanoi, focusing on advanced solutions to deal with African swine fever (ASF). The workshop brought together leading experts to discuss the latest diagnostic methods and especially the 5-layer biosecurity system, which is expected to become a solid "shield" for the Vietnamese pig herd.
According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, President of the Association, ASF has become a major challenge since its appearance in Vietnam in 2019, causing serious damage and threatening food security. Despite many efforts to research a vaccine, the disease still has no cure and is always at risk of re-emergence.
Faced with that reality, Ms. Huong affirmed that rapid and accurate diagnosis, combined with advanced biosecurity solutions, suitable for actual conditions, is the key factor to help the pig farming industry adapt and develop sustainably. This workshop aims to provide the latest knowledge and technology, helping farmers proactively control diseases.
The 5-layer biosecurity solution introduced includes comprehensive measures, from sanitation, disinfection of barns, control of livestock access, to management of feed, water and health of the pig herd. The goal of this solution is to create a closed farming environment, minimizing the possibility of pathogens entering.
With the consensus of scientists, businesses and farmers, the effective application of these solutions not only helps protect pigs from disease but also contributes to building a sustainable, modern livestock industry, ensuring a safe food supply for the market.
