Domestic pepper prices remain stable in highland areas

On the morning of October 22, domestic pepper prices continued to remain stable around the highest level in many months. On average, pepper prices are currently at 145,400 VND/kg.

In key localities such as Dak Lak and Dak Nong , pepper prices are anchored at 146,000 VND/kg, the highest in the region.

Gia Lai maintained 144,000 VND/kg, while Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City traded around 145,000 VND/kg.

The two provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc both reached 145,500 VND/kg.

According to experts, domestic supply is limited, while recovering export demand helps domestic pepper prices remain stable in highland areas. Enterprises and farmers continue to be cautious, only trading when there is a suitable price, creating a solid foundation for the market.

In addition to the pepper price fluctuations, the Vietnamese pepper industry is being affected by the incident where some shipments exported to Taiwan were found to be contaminated with Sudan IV, an industrial colorant banned in food.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPA), all of the violating goods were required to be destroyed, causing losses of hundreds of thousands of USD per batch.

VPA recommends that businesses only export pepper when the test results meet standards and the origin is clearly traceable. Temporarily, units that have not yet controlled the risk of Sudan IV infection should postpone shipments to the Taiwanese market to avoid financial losses and protect the reputation of the Vietnamese pepper brand.

World pepper prices fluctuate slightly, Indonesia's prices decrease continuously

In the international market, the International Pepper Community (IPC) announced pepper prices on October 22, showing that Indonesia continued to decrease slightly, while other countries remained stable.

Specifically, the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) was at 7,229 USD/ton, down 0.01% compared to the previous session; the price of Muntok white pepper decreased 0.03% to 10,085 USD/ton.

In Malaysia, ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged at USD 9,500/ton, ASTA white pepper at USD 12,500/ton. Brazil was also stable with ASTA 570 black pepper at USD 6,100/ton.

Vietnam continues to maintain pepper export prices: black pepper 500g/l at 6,400 USD/ton, 550g/l at 6,600 USD/ton, and white pepper at 9,050 USD/ton.

According to analysts, the drop in Indonesian pepper prices is a short-term profit-taking reaction after a series of strong increases. However, the global pepper market is still maintaining a high price range. Import demand from Europe, the Middle East and the US is forecast to increase by the end of the year as the peak consumption season approaches.

If this trend continues, Vietnamese pepper prices are likely to remain stable or increase slightly next month, giving farmers and exporters more opportunities to improve profits.
