He questioned whether a breakup could "destroy the company," although he said he was no fan of Google. "If you don't break it up, what you can do is make it more fair," Trump said. According to the New York Times, Trump's comments signal a different approach to antitrust actions against Google. Just last month, he said he would prosecute Google for displaying "bad stories" about him. In August, a US federal judge declared Google had an illegal monopoly in the internet search market. Most recently, the US Justice Department said it was considering breaking up Google. Google declined to comment on Trump's remarks. The US tech giant has argued that a split could hurt US interests in a heated geopolitical competition with China for dominance in areas like AI. Mr. Trump reiterated this view on October 15. “It’s a very dangerous thing because we want to have great companies,” he said. “We don’t want China to have these companies.” He also revealed that he called CEO Sundar Pichai to complain that despite having many great stories about him, he couldn’t find them on Google.
