According to information from Professor Lam Quang Thiep's relatives, he passed away on the evening of October 13 at the hospital due to old age and poor health, at the age of 86.
Professor Dr. Lam Quang Thiep was born in 1939 in Da Nang (formerly Quang Nam ).
He graduated with a degree in Physics from Hanoi University in 1961, then worked and taught at the school and Hanoi National University. From 1975 to 1980, he taught at Ho Chi Minh City University.

During this period of work, he was sent to the former Soviet Union to do research at Moscow State University, where he successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 1968 and his doctorate in 1982 in Physics.
Prof. Dr. Lam Quang Thiep is one of the pioneer scientists in the field of geophysics in Vietnam. He is one of the founders of the Department of Geophysics at the Faculty of Physics, Hanoi National University in 1962 - this is the first department of this major in Vietnam.
Prof. Dr. Lam Quang Thiep held the position of Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training and Assistant to the Minister of Education and Training from 1988 to 2000 with many contributions to the innovation of the higher education system such as: building a credit-based learning model, innovating the admission process, developing the field of measurement and evaluation in education.
After retiring from the Ministry of Education and Training, he taught and researched at the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Thang Long University.
Professor Lam Quang Thiep has published many valuable works, textbooks and research books, including Electrical Probing Methods (1979), American Higher Education (2006-2007), Measurement in Education - Theory and Application (2010), Measurement and Evaluation of Learning Activities in Schools (2012) and Governance, Management and Quality Improvement of Vietnamese Higher Education (2023).
He is also the co-author of the “Unified Bipolar and Symmetric Electric Depth Measurement Method”, which was patented by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 1989.
