Customs Region VIII: Improving the effectiveness of anti-smuggling

In implementing the annual tasks, the Customs Branch of Region VIII has made efforts to strictly control the area, proactively detect, combat, prevent, and promptly and strictly handle acts of smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal transportation of goods across the border; contributing to maintaining local safety and socio-economic development.

On May 27, in Hai Ninh commune, the Customs Control Team coordinated with functional forces of Quang Ninh province to seize more than 25 tons of goods of unknown origin.

In recent times, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal transportation of goods in the province has still had complicated developments. Therefore, the work of fighting smuggling still faces many difficulties and challenges. In this situation, the Customs Branch of Region VIII has strictly implemented the instructions of the Government , the Central Steering Committee 389, the province, the Customs Department and the Provincial People's Committee; regularly coordinated with functional branches and local authorities to effectively carry out the work of fighting smuggling, trade fraud and drug prevention at border gates and border lines.

Since the beginning of the year, the unit has consistently and effectively implemented 8 key tasks and solutions with the goal of "High determination - Accurate advice - Correct action - Real efficiency". Managing the area, controlling the situation, restraining subjects; resolutely not allowing hot spots of smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods to arise within the customs operation area.

The Department has directed border customs units and the Customs Control Team to strengthen the fight against smuggling, contributing to price stabilization;   prevention of drugs, laughing gas (N2O);   Prevent and combat commercial fraud, production and trading of fake and poor quality drugs and medicinal herbs; prevent illegal trading and transportation of pigs, meat and bone meal products, and animal protein across the border into Vietnam; illegal transportation of wild animals and plants and products from wild animals and plants listed in CITES; fight against petrol smuggling... Launch a peak campaign to prevent and repel smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights.

The Department has actively coordinated with mass organizations and media agencies to promote propaganda, dissemination and education of laws on illegal trading and transportation of goods, in order to raise awareness of people and businesses with rich and diverse content and forms suitable for each locality. Actively coordinate between functional forces, especially the police, border guards and market management sectors, to promote the combined strength in the fight against smuggling and illegal transportation of goods; proactively detect, handle and prevent violations of smuggling, ensuring social security and order.

Along with that, seriously implement Directive No. 13/CT-TTg (dated May 17, 2025) of the Prime Minister on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the new situation; strengthen management, inspection and supervision of means of transport in customs operation areas; strictly manage goods under customs supervision, temporarily imported and re-exported goods, goods sent to bonded warehouses, in transit, and independently transported goods; strengthen inspection, supervision, promptly detect and resolutely handle cases of ignoring, covering up, and assisting in smuggling and illegal transportation of goods and drugs.

In the first 6 months of the year, Customs Region VIII presided over the arrest of 173 cases.   smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, goods violating intellectual property rights, worth 5.7 billion VND (an increase of 14.56% in number of cases and an increase of 9.24% in value compared to the same period in 2024). Coordinated the arrest of 67 cases, worth 5.2 billion VND. Presided over and coordinated the arrest of 10 cases/14 subjects illegally storing and trading drugs (presided over 1 case/1 subject, evidence of 0.216 grams of synthetic drugs; coordinated the arrest of 9 cases/13 subjects, evidence of 240.297 grams of synthetic drugs; 0.951 grams of heroin and 5.8 grams of marijuana).

In order to effectively implement the work of combating smuggling, trade fraud and drug prevention, in the coming time, the Customs Branch of Region VIII will continue to thoroughly grasp and vigorously implement the instructions of the Government, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee 389, and the Customs Department on the work of combating smuggling and illegal transportation of goods. This is determined to be one of the key and consistent contents in the fight against illegal trafficking and transportation of goods across the border, contributing to stabilizing social order and safety.
