Quang Ngai: Waterway tourism activities contribute to promoting tourism development

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province has issued report No. 1324/BC-SVHTTDL on the current status of waterway tourism activities in Quang Ngai province (period 2023 - 2025).

The report said that currently, in Quang Ngai province, there are 02 waterway routes with inland waterway tourism activities, including: The waterway transport route from the shore to Ly Son island is the Sa Ky - Ly Son route (Big Island) and the waterway transport route from Big Island - Small Island of Ly Son island.

Of which, the Sa Ky - Ly Son route has 04 high-speed passenger boats, with a capacity of 139 - 152 seats, and a transport capacity of 5,000 passengers/day (both departure and arrival directions). From 2023 to 2025, 517,235 passengers were transported, with total passenger transport revenue of 181,032 million VND.

Transport units on the Sa Ky - Ly Son and Dao Lon - Dao Be routes always pay attention to investing in upgrading modern, high-quality vehicles to meet the needs and ensure safety for inland waterway transport.

The Big Island - Small Island route has 12 tourist boats (canoes) carrying passengers, including 11 passenger boats carrying from 23 to 38 passengers and 01 wooden boat (carrying 10 passengers and 4 tons of cargo), with the capacity to transport 3,000 passengers/day on the route. From 2023 to 2025, 169,654 passengers were transported; total passenger transport revenue is 18,662 million VND.

According to the assessment of the situation of waterway tourism activities in Sa Ky port and Ly Son special zone, the infrastructure system of seaports, ports, and inland waterway wharves has been invested in, built, upgraded, and repaired in recent times, basically meeting social needs, creating favorable conditions for receiving and exploiting passenger ships, contributing to promoting tourism development on Ly Son island.

In recent times, the province has strengthened the direction of relevant departments, branches, units and localities to constantly innovate and upgrade the quality of waterway tourism activities, promote digital transformation, apply technology to management activities and provide services to improve quality, serve people and tourists anytime, anywhere; organize the sale of electronic train tickets through online transactions; control and monitor through technology, QR codes... focusing on instilling in employees and workers to always uphold their responsibility, spirit, attitude and manner of serving people and tourists; create conditions, support and guide businesses, organizations and individuals to comply with legal regulations related to inland waterway transport activities.

Actively coordinate closely with competent authorities to effectively perform their roles and responsibilities in management, inspection, and supervision to ensure security, order, and traffic safety in waterway transport activities from shore to Sa Ky - Ly Son Island, Big Island - Small Island.

Transport units on the Sa Ky - Ly Son, Dao Lon - Dao Be routes always pay attention to investing in upgrading modern, high-quality vehicles to meet the needs and ensure safety in serving inland waterway transport. The majority of crew members and service staff strictly comply with the provisions of the law and serve customers in a civilized and polite manner.

In the coming time, in order to promote waterway activities, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province proposes that all levels pay attention to and focus on investing in and developing the system of ports, wharves, terminals, parking lots, and roads; create connections and synchronize infrastructure to serve tourism services to ensure compliance with planning and meet social needs; firstly, focus on allocating capital to implement the investment project to build and extend Sa Ky wharf, repair and maintain wharf works and Ben Dinh port passenger terminal; complete legal conditions for ports and wharves on the Dao Lon - Dao Be route and invest, upgrade, and construct auxiliary works to ensure safe and orderly passenger pick-up and drop-off activities at the bridge.

Continue to have policies to encourage and attract investment and create conditions for businesses to invest, upgrade, build and put into operation new ships that meet modern standards, maintain high quality to be able to operate stably and continuously on the Sa Ky - Ly Son route, the Dao Lon - Dao Be route.

Promote digital transformation, apply science and technology, build software systems, share and synchronize common databases to serve the management and exploitation of activities at ports, wharves, and transportation activities on the Sa Ky - Ly Son and Dao Lon - Dao Be routes.

Strengthen training, knowledge development, and professional training for tourism service forces in terms of professional qualifications, foreign languages, information technology, and cultural communication skills.
