Grealish played the role of hero to help Everton win 3 points in round 7 of the Premier League on October 5. During an interview with Sky Sports , Grealish was informed that he would receive the best player award. However, the English star surprisingly suggested that the title be given to a player of Crystal Palace.
According to Grealish, Palace's young midfielder Adam Wharton was the standout performer on the pitch. The former Man City star said: "I have a goal and four assists since the start of the season, which is what a winger should aim for. But today was difficult because Palace are a very strong team with a lot of great players. I think the Man of the Match award will probably go to me, but I think Adam Wharton is the one who deserves it the most."
Wharton has been a mainstay for Palace this season, appearing in six of their seven Premier League games. Against Everton, the 21-year-old midfielder also made his mark with his ability to hold the ball and fight strongly in midfield. Wharton helped Palace maintain an 18-match unbeaten streak, before it was broken by Grealish's Everton.
Speaking after the match, Grealish also expressed his excitement after scoring the precious goal: “I ran straight to my parents after that special goal. This goal is dedicated to all the Everton fans for giving me such a warm welcome.”
Everton are 8th in the Premier League table with 11 points, while Palace are 6th.
