Born in 1981, from Duc Thanh commune, Mo Duc district, Quang Ngai province (old), Mr. Tran Trong Dao was recognized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor as Principal in 2021, when he was only 41 years old - a time when the school had just gone through a period of prolonged internal conflicts.
Previously, Mr. Dao held many important positions at Ton Duc Thang University: Acting Principal, Vice Principal (2015-2020), Director of the Institute of International Research and Training Cooperation, Head of the Department of Science and Technology - Cooperation and Postgraduate Studies, lecturer.
Mr. Tran Trong Dao was formally trained in the Czech Republic. In 2004, he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in applied informatics and control, from the Technical University of Ostrava. In 2006, he received a master's degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in automatic control and informatics engineering. In 2009, he successfully defended his doctorate in technical cybernetics at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. He is fluent in English and Czech, both of which were fully trained abroad, and has the ability to teach and research in these two foreign languages.

Mr. Dao is a candidate for associate professor of interdisciplinary Electricity - Electronics - Automation in 2025.
During more than 15 years of training and research, Dr. Tran Trong Dao has guided 3 graduate students to successfully defend their master's theses and presided over 2 university-level scientific research projects. He has published 32 scientific articles and reports, including 16 in prestigious international journals (WoS/Scopus), 14 reports at international conferences, and 2 articles in the scoring list of the State Council of Professors.
Additionally, he is the author of a reference book and 2 book chapters published by reputable international publishers.
For his contributions in teaching and research, he was awarded certificates of merit by the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
In his application to the State Council of Professors, Mr. Tran Trong Dao affirmed that he fully meets the standards of an associate professor, from expertise, professional ethics to foreign language proficiency. He actively participates in quality assessment, training program development, international cooperation, guiding students in scientific research and maintaining regular international publications.
Mr. Tran Trong Dao became the principal of Ton Duc Thang University after a long period of scandals. Under his leadership, Ton Duc Thang University has seen steady increases in revenue year after year, ranking among the top in terms of financial autonomy among Vietnamese universities.
In 2022, the school will have revenue of VND1,067 billion, of which more than 90% will come from tuition fees.
In 2023, total revenue is 1,157 billion VND, of which revenue from tuition fees is nearly 1,000 billion VND.
In 2024, total revenue will be 1,224 billion VND, of which tuition fees will be 1,072 billion VND, revenue from research and technology transfer will be 44.8 billion VND, and other expenses will be 49.7 billion VND.
