Japanese coach criticizes FAT
The decision to fire coach Masatada Ishii was made by FAT on the afternoon of October 21. This was considered a surprise announcement as the Japanese coach had just helped the Thai team win 2 victories, thereby maintaining the hope of participating in the 2027 Asian Cup finals. According to FAT, the reason for the decision to fire coach Masatada Ishii was due to "lack of strategic unity". Since taking office (December 2023), coach Masatada Ishii and the Thai team have gone through 30 matches with the results of 16 wins, 6 draws and 8 losses.
Just about an hour after the dismissal was announced, coach Masatada Ishii expressed his disappointment on his personal page: “Today at 10 o'clock, I was called to the Football Association of Thailand to review the 2 matches against Taiwan. There, after the review ended, I suddenly received a notice that the contract would be terminated today.
The reason given was that they wanted to change the personnel in all age groups of the Thai national team. I was shocked and because I could not organize my thoughts, I promised to reply later and left. However, in the afternoon the decision to fire (by FAT) was made. I do not understand why they did that, they are so insincere."
The Japanese coach also did not forget to send a message to Thai fans: "I want to send this to all those who have supported the Thai national team up to now. I thank you very much."

FAT’s decision surprised Thai fans. On Facebook, FAT’s posts also continuously received angry emotions and critical comments.
Thai sports newspaper Siamsport commented: “ The Thai football world has once again heated up when Masatada Ishii, former coach of the Thai national team, posted an angry message on his personal Instagram account. He was unexpectedly terminated by the FAT despite having been in charge for less than a year.
Many fans expressed outrage and questioned the FAT's management process. They did not understand why the relationship between the two sides had broken down so quickly. More specifically, it will be very difficult for Thai football when the FIFA Days series in November 2025 is approaching."
Losing to the Vietnamese team in the AFF Cup 2024 is one of the major reasons.

Meanwhile, Thairath pointed out the reasons for coach Masatada Ishii's dismissal. The Thai newspaper commented: "Mr. Masatada Ishii was unable to help the Thai team pass the second qualifying round of the World Cup because he lost to his direct competitor, the Chinese team. This is the first main reason. In particular, in the last match, Thailand still could not complete the task even though they played at home at Rajamangala Stadium.
Second, the Thai team lost the AFF Cup 2024 championship to the Vietnamese team. Worse, we lost to the Philippines after 52 years. Third, the Thai team could not defend the King's Cup 2025 championship. Finally, coach Masatada Ishii's tactics were also considered outdated, causing the players to lack desire in both training and competition. At the same time, the Japanese coach also neglected the group of high-performing players at the club, leading to many frustrations.
