Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson gets his wish to lead Liverpool in his final months

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has long been a loyal Liverpool fan. And the famous Swede will realize his dream of managing Liverpool at Anfield next month. The former England manager will be part of the coaching staff of the Liverpool Legends team who will play against Ajax legends in the annual LFC Foundation charity match.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is one of the most successful coaches in his career.

Eriksson will join Red Devils greats Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge in the charity match at Anfield on March 23. The former Manchester City boss revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and may have just a year to live. But he also admitted that he had always dreamed of managing his beloved Liverpool. Now that dream will come true.

"Liverpool FC is delighted to confirm Sven-Goran Eriksson will be part of the LFC Legends coaching staff for the match against Ajax Legends at Anfield, on 23 March. The former England manager will be joined by a squad of Liverpool greats, including Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge, for the LFC Foundation's annual charity match. All those connected with the Club and the LFC Foundation look forward to a warm welcome to Sven and his family to Anfield, and to meeting him in the dugout on the day for what will be a fantastic fundraising occasion," a statement from Liverpool FC read.

Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson once led the Philippines national team.

Famous former goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek and Sander Westerveld will be part of the Liverpool Legends team. Defenders Martin Skrtel, Fabio Auerlio and Gregory Vignal are also confirmed to be in attendance, along with Djibril Cisse. Former Red Devils and Ajax striker Ryan Babel will feature for both sides.

Mr Eriksson has vowed not to let the disease ruin his life, despite admitting that time is running out. Speaking before an awards dinner in his hometown last month, the 76-year-old said: "I'm not giving up, I want to live a normal everyday life."

Several Liverpool legends will be in attendance for the match alongside coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also stated that he would welcome Eriksson with open arms: "It's the first time I've heard about his admiration or love for Liverpool and that he's a lifelong fan of the club. The only thing I can say is that he's absolutely welcome to come here and sit in my seat and do my job for a day if he wants. That's no problem. Having him here and showing him everything, how this great club has developed over the years, I'm sure he can come and spend a great few hours here."

Eriksson enjoyed great success as a manager between 1977 and 2001, winning 18 trophies with clubs in Sweden, Portugal and Italy. In European competition, he won both the UEFA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup and reached the final of the European Cup (now the Champions League). Eriksson also managed England, Mexico, the Philippines and Ivory Coast, as well as Manchester City and Leicester City in England. During his coaching career, Eriksson has coached in 10 countries: Sweden, Portugal, Italy, England, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Thailand, the UAE, China and the Philippines.
