On the morning of October 7, SLNA announced that Coach Van Sy Son would become the new captain to replace Coach Phan Nhu Thuat. The "return" of the coach from Nghe An opens up the hope of helping the Nghe An team regain its identity and improve its position on the rankings after a difficult start in V.League 2025/26.

According to the investigation, the negotiation process between SLNA and Coach Van Sy Son took place quickly and smoothly. After his introduction in the morning, he immediately started the first training session with his students in the afternoon.

“What makes me happiest is that despite being away for so many years, when I return here today, I receive a lot of affection from the leaders as well as the current players. With my experience, I will devote everything I have. Hopefully, Nghe An fans will continue to accompany and cheer for the team in the upcoming journey,” Coach Van Sy Son shared on the day of his debut.

Under coach Nhu Thuat, the Nghe An team only had one draw and four losses. This is the reason why this young coach resigned after the end of round 5. In round 6, when coach Huy Hoang was in charge temporarily, SLNA won 1 point against HAGL.

Currently, the Vinh team has only 5 points, ranking 10th after 6 rounds. Therefore, the appearance of coach Van Sy Son on the coaching bench is expected to bring a new breeze, rekindling the identity of Nghe An football in the journey to regain its position in V.League.

The 53-year-old coach continued to emphasize: “Nghe An people have a saying: anger is anger but love is love. The most important thing right now is that I want to work with the players to regain SLNA's original identity. I hope the fans will continue to accompany and support the team more.”

In the immediate future, Coach Van Sy Son has more than 10 days to prepare before SLNA welcomes CAHN at Vinh Stadium on October 18. In addition to V.League, the Nghe An team still has a goal in the National Cup - a tournament in which they are the current runner-up.
