Intel has just announced the global winners of the 5th Intel AI Global Impact Festival 2025. This is an annual event to honor creative artificial intelligence projects with positive impacts on society by students from 32 countries.

Six teams from India, the US, Moldova, Singapore, China and Vietnam won the Global Award, which was judged on innovation, social impact and “responsible AI” standards.

This year, Vietnam continued to make a strong impression with two projects honored in both global and regional categories.

In the over 18 age group, three students Hoang Gia Huy, Bui Xuan Canh and Vi Hoai Thuong (Lac Hong University, Dong Nai province) won the Global Award with the project Your Voice - an AI application that helps break down communication barriers between the deaf and the community. The application uses computer vision, machine learning and animated avatars to translate Vietnamese Sign Language (VSL) into text or voice in real time, while supporting learning to sign and finding jobs for more than 2.5 million deaf people in Vietnam. Each winning student received 2,000 USD from Intel.

In the 13-17 age group, Ha Ngo (Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa province) and Phuc Phan (Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City) won the Regional Award with the Hap project - a device that supports orientation for the visually impaired using AI and tactile feedback.

“Hap” combines smart glasses and a vibrating neckband, using the YOLOv8 model and Intel’s OpenVINO toolkit to recognize objects and transmit directional signals via vibration, helping blind people move safely without sound. The project is designed to be low-cost, easy to use and operate offline, with each student receiving $1,000.

"Young innovators are shaping the future by applying AI to solve real-world problems, with fresh thinking and ethical commitment, driving progress in many fields," said Kimberly Mayes, Vice President of the Center for Talent Strategy, Inclusion, Engagement and Corporate Social Impact at Intel.
