The International Scientific Conference on Climate Change, Health and Green Health Systems in Asia Pacific attracts a large number of domestic and international experts
(Haiphong.gov.vn) - From October 30 to November 1, at Doi Rong Hotel (Do Son district), the International Scientific Conference on Climate Change, Health and Green Health Systems in Asia Pacific took place with the theme "Transforming Asia's health systems: Vision for equitable, low-carbon, sustainable and climate-resilient health care".
The conference was organized for the 6th time by Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in collaboration with the Department of Health Environment Management, Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), with the cooperation of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Vietnam, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Center for Health Environment Research and Development (CHERAD) and FHI 360. Previously, the conference took place in the Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan and Singapore.
Attending the Conference were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Deputy Minister of Health; Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Le Khac Nam; representatives of leaders of Departments, Offices, Ministry of Health; Departments, branches, Hospitals in Hai Phong City; and more than 100 international delegates from more than 10 Asian countries and territories around the world.
The conference aims to bring together hospitals, health systems, climate activists and stakeholders to build green, sustainable and climate-resilient healthcare in Asia. The conference will highlight the leadership of the healthcare sector in achieving health equity and justice by promoting stronger environmental standards and policies, rebuilding post-pandemic and natural disaster, and mobilizing healthcare professionals and institutions to lead climate discussions.
The conference includes 3 plenary sessions and 12 parallel sessions on related topics. This will be a forum for the world's leading experts to work together towards building a global Green and Healthy Hospital Network, contributing to the fight against climate change.
Speaking at the Conference, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam informed delegates about the socio-economic development situation of Hai Phong city in recent years. Accordingly, in 2023, in the city, the rate of households using clean water according to standards will reach 100%; in urban areas, the rate of solid waste collected and treated hygienically will reach 100%; in rural areas, the rate of solid waste collected will reach 97%, treated hygienically will reach 75%, and the rate of wastewater treated according to technical standards will reach 40.77%.
The city highly appreciates the fact that Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy is hosting the International Conference on Climate Change, Health and Green Healthcare System. This is a very urgent issue for the whole world today, especially when Hai Phong and the Northern provinces recently suffered heavy damage from Typhoon Yagi - one of the evidences of climate change.
The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee believes and expects that the Conference will be an opportunity for international learning and exchange, promoting the quality of training and research; at the same time, it will also be an opportunity for scientists to discuss and give recommendations, directions and solutions to contribute to the goal of zero net emissions; pioneering medical facilities to transform sustainable healthcare, proposing adaptation strategies to ensure nutrition, clean water, sanitation and sustainable environmental sanitation, climate resilience...
