Dr. Phan Van Hieu, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology - Chairman of the Council.

According to Notice No. 1261/TB-SKHCN dated September 5, 2025 on proposing grassroots science and technology tasks using the state budget in 2025, the Center for Science and Technology Application of Quang Ngai province has proposed a grassroots science and technology task with the topic "Research on selecting Trichoderma strains for application in the production of microbial preparations to prevent coffee root fungus in the west of Quang Ngai province".

According to the explanation of the presiding agency and the project manager, the project aims to select some indigenous Trichoderma strains with strong antagonistic ability against some coffee root pathogenic fungi strains in the western region of Quang Ngai province and to develop a pilot-scale production process of microbial products.

The specific objectives of the project are: to isolate Trichoderma strains from soil samples of coffee plantations in Quang Ngai; to select Trichoderma strains capable of inhibiting common coffee-damaging fungi such as Fusarium spp., Rhizoctonia solani, Pythium spp., Phytophthora spp. from strains isolated in Quang Ngai; to successfully develop a process for producing microbial preparations from potential fungal strains; to test the ability of microbial preparations to inhibit coffee root-damaging fungi in some growing areas in some communes of Quang Ngai province.

The project is expected to be implemented from November 2025 to November 2027 with the following contents: isolating Trichoderma sp. from coffee growing soil in Quang Ngai province; evaluating cellulase and chitinase activities of isolated Trichoderma strains; selecting Trichoderma sp. strains that are antagonistic to some fungi causing root diseases; developing a process for producing Trichoderma preparations on a pilot scale; testing the ability of microbial preparations to inhibit coffee root diseases in some growing areas in Quang Ngai province.

Council members discussed and evaluated the task description at the meeting.

Through analyzing the objectives of the proposal and evaluating the duplication of tasks, the Council voted to evaluate with an average score of 76.1 points, meeting the conditions for implementation of this topic.
