Hung Yen: Nearly 4kg tumor removed from mother, fetus born successfully

Informing Nhan Dan Newspaper, Thai Binh Obstetrics Hospital (Hung Yen province) said that doctors had just successfully performed a cesarean section, combined with removing a "super large" ovarian tumor.

Mother and baby are completely healthy after surgery to remove a rare tumor at Thai Binh Obstetrics Hospital.

The patient is Ms. Nguyen Thi L. (28 years old), with an address in Bac Tien Hung commune ( Hung Yen ) admitted to the hospital in labor at 38 weeks of pregnancy. Notably, the ultrasound showed a large tumor, occupying almost the entire abdomen. The surgical team decided to perform an active cesarean section to ensure maximum safety for both mother and child.

In about 40 minutes, a healthy baby boy weighing 3.4kg was born, with rosy skin and a loud cry after birth. Next, the doctors removed the left ovarian tumor measuring 31cm x 40cm and weighing nearly 4kg.

The ovarian tumor weighed nearly 4kg.

The doctors performed an immediate biopsy and the result was a benign tumor. According to the expert assessment, this was a difficult case because the mother had a previous cesarean section scar and a large tumor in the abdomen. Therefore, extensive surgical experience and close coordination between the surgical, anesthesia, and resuscitation stages were required for the surgery to be successful.
