After a long period of negotiations, Inter Miami has successfully convinced Rodrigo De Paul to join the team. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the successful deal.
The MLS team had to spend up to 15 million euros to get the service of the Argentine midfielder for 4 years from Atletico Madrid. This is the most expensive contract in the history of Beckham's club.
The previous record belonged to the transfer of Rodolfo Pizarro for 10.9 million euros in 2019.
This is seen as a strong move from Inter Miami to "please" Messi in the context that the 38-year-old superstar still shows no signs of wanting to extend his contract.
De Paul's arrival will significantly strengthen Inter Miami's midfield. The 31-year-old midfielder is a great partner of Messi in the Argentina national team, together they won the 2022 World Cup, 2021 and 2024 Copa America.
He will join other experienced names such as Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba to lead the team to the championship ambition.
However, at the age of 31, De Paul's decision to retire early surprised fans. Because he was a key factor for coach Diego Simeone at Atletico. Last season, he had 53 appearances and the midfielder's form was still very good.
De Paul joined Atletico Madrid in 2021 from Udinese for €35 million and signed a five-year contract. He is entering the final year of his contract and Atletico have shown little interest in extending it, so it is somewhat reasonable that he wants to find a new destination.
